SOURCE: have problem with my hyundai santa fe exaust system 2004 2.4l.

If you are getting exhaust fumes in the engine compartment I advise checking the exhaust manifolds for cracks. When the engine is cold remove the heat shield from the manifold using a 12mm socket and inspect from the top and underneath for any cracking.

SOURCE: 2003 Hyundai santa fe 2.4, intermitent skipping,

The coil itself could be bad.
Try determining if there is a miss on a cylinder or cylinders.

SOURCE: Got emission codes of P2187

Hi, The code p2189 and p2187 signifies that air/fuel mixture too lean on both cylinder banks which in turn generates excessive emissions = failed inspection.

What can cause a lean mixture:
- Incorrect main charge signal
- Intake air system leaking
- Fuel pressure too low
- Volume supply of fuel pump too low
- Mechanical fault in injectors
- PCV valve leaks
- Leaks in exhaust system
- EVAP canister purge valve mechanically faulty (hangs open)

All these must be checked to correct the problem

Engine check light on all the time Santa Fe 2003 manual

The vehicle will run fine for a while until that cat goes out all the way, the only thing that might get you away cheaper than $1,000 is a wrecking yard cat, but then you still take risks. If the cat is bad its bad nothing to do but replace it.

MOTOR PINGING

sorry I got a head of myself without a check engine light it probably isnt a mass air flow the 2.4 liter engine is a very very touchy engine I don't think that there would be anything covered by the waranty as its a 2003 things to check first would be tune up condition including a fuel filter and the most important thing is the timming belt and balaceshaft belt
