Which engine ? Put a drain pan under top radiator hose. There should be a cast part attached. Remove, you will see thermostat, pull install new, clean old gasket off, install new gasket with ORANGE HIGH TEMP PERMATEX SILICONE, re-assemble

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima. The heat no longer works, it blows out cold air. The heat will only slightly work when I drive on the highway.

Usually it's a bad thermostat or a blocked heater core. The best way to fix it is to have it flushed out. But make sure when it's done, either by you or your shop of choice, they disconnect all the hoses and do the heater core, motor and rad seperately. Also put in a new thermostat. Another problem in certain vehicles with low use is that the air direction flaps in the dash are stuck. Start the car, and move the dials. you should hear the flaps/doors moving. (They are vacuum controlled, so thats why you start the car). I hope this helps.

No heat. Both thermostats replaced.

Pressure test the cooling system. Remove the spark plugs and inspect the top of the piston. Look for coolant. If you can see your own eye you found coolant. If the cooling system was properly bled and still no heat at idle you may find coolant in the cylinder. The head gasket would need to be replaced and the surfaces prepped. Machining the head is not recommended.

Heat intermittently working Nissan Altima 2002

you may have a sticking thermostat make sure you have enough anti-freeze in it and it does not have a air bubble in it give these websites a try www.alldatadiy.com and www.autozone.com if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your car wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.

1st thing I would do is have your thermostat checked at a rebutable rad shop also somtimes the rad cores get blocked and will not circulate the heat properly either problem can be rectified at the rad shop...good luck

Heater and defrost blowing cold air

Check your engine cooling system for low coolant or a bad thermostat. That's where the heater and defroster get the heat. You may also have a clogged heater core.
