This light is an indicator of the air bag system being out of service due to a problem detected. are there any other systems that are not operating? if so, like on the steering wheel, this is an indicator of the clock spring behind the steeringwheel. what needs to happen is the system scanned for codes and then you can make a battle plan of what you need to do first. the trouble codes are going to point you in the right direction.

A few days ago the red light which indicates the air bags system on the front panel is now staying on. Can anybody help me get the light off - If not is it worth having it repaired

It is helpful to know the the year, make, and model of your car.

Just about all airbag systems will keep track of what has caused their problem. You need to have a shop or dealer with the right scanning tools read the airbag module and give you the diagnosis.

before you start your car the airbag module will scan all connections in the car, and if any do not have the correct signal it will flash the airbag light (this also indicates that the airbag system is not functional) so if you are in an accident while the light is on. the airbags will not deploy.

The problem could be a broken clock spring in the steering column, they are good for 15-20 years depending on how much the car was driven in those years. could be a faulty seat belt sensor, broken wire, bad crash sensor, Etc.

So get the car scanned and make short work of finding the problem, cost effective ?
You'll have to decide.

My srs airbag warning light doesn't go out on my 05 honda pilot. How do I shut it off

There are 4 most important components involved in the airbag deploy system.
Airbag itself.
Airbag Clock Spring.
Airbag Control Unit (ACU) or Airbag Module.
Airbag Impact Sensors.
If it is any problem in the components, then Airbag Light stays ON.
Sometimes there is a false code, and AUC can be cleared and reset. This can be done by professionals and cost $60 to $70. Might be a loose connector or a defective component, in this case they might charge you more.
The light indicates a problem with your air bags. Do not attempt to do any repairs to the system by yourself. Take it to the Honda dealer or a qualified service center.

there is no way you can check it your self, it has to be taken to dealer so the whole system can be scanned for a problem. it has detected a problem in system. good-luck!!

Hi, how much would it cost to reset airbag light on my vw lupo

Sorry but that can only be answered by a repair garage. The answer depends upon:-

  • the country you're in;
  • whether you use an independent garage or a franchised outlet; and
  • the exact reason that the light has come on
The last point is really important: you may just have a loose wiring connector or the light could be telling you that an airbag has actually failed and needs replacing. It's important to note that this is not really a DIY job: if you don't understand what you're doing there's a risk of airbag detonation which could harm you and cause a lot of interior damage.

As your car is now 10 years old, it's likely that the light has just come on to tell you that the airbags have reached the end of their certified lifespan and need servicing. In practice what usually happens is that a VW garage or an airbag specialist will run diagnostics on the system and then re-certify the system for around another 5 years, resetting the airbag light to match. They can do this based on ongoing research by the airbag manufacturer using samples of airbags manufactured at the same time as yours. Many car insurers will refuse to pay out if the airbag light is ignored or if it has been reset by unqualified personnel.

The cost of the diagnostics and recertification is usually fairly low as it normally doesn't take long if all proves to be fine, but you can usually get it done for free if you get the same garage to do a major service or similar major work done at the same time, such as a cambelt replacement which will definitely be overdue if not already carried out.

Im going to buy a 95 caprice classic but the air

Yes. Potentially a very expensive one.

If you love the car then get an expert to check the airbag fault out before you buy the car (preferably a franchised dealer, see below); if you're lucky then it's just a loose connection plug but even fiddling with one of those yourself can set the airbags off, instantly transforming the car into an economic write-off.

Even if there is just a loose connector then bear in mind that airbags generally have just a ten year design life and when they degrade sufficiently the diagnostic check that the car runs when starting up will also cause the warning light to illuminate. If the cause is purely due to age, then all of the airbags need replacing and once again you're into expensive territory. The airbags can be disconnected and left in place (potentially dangerous) or removed completely, but both of the latter options will be checked by insurers if you're in a crash and if discovered will invalidate your cover.

Note that if serviced at a franchised dealer, the airbag service life on many models can be extended. As an example, Volvo state that for vehicles manufactured between '93 and '96 can be re-certified to fifteen years, and with sufficient diagnostic testing models made from '87 to '92 can be re-certified to twenty years. This is possible based upon the results of the diagnostics and the manufacturer's ongoing test experience with their own products. General Motors (Chevrolet) will almost certainly have similar guidance for their products. If the airbag system passes the manufacturer's specified checks then the dealer can reset the diagnostic system to extinguish the warning light.

All you can do is to either accept that you may be saddled with the costs of airbag replacement in the near future (not always available on older models, so check beforehand) or to buy a Caprice which is much younger or which has a service history showing that the work has been done already.

I hope that this hasn't put you off buying the Caprice, although the remedial work may cost more than the car is worth, it's still cheaper than a new car and you'll have something a bit more different and characterful than a new model. Airbags are one of many reasons that prices of older used cars can often be little more than scrap value. Old cars are cheap precisely because they need increasing sums of money spent on them to keep them safe, roadworthy and legal. New cars need less maintenance but lose a lot of money by depreciation (US= falling residuals).
