Hello
Try this. Disconnect the transmission linkage under the hood at the
colum. Now try moving the shift lever,if it functions normaly, check the
linkage from the colum to the transmission to see if it is bent or bound up. If you still can't shift with the linkage disconnected, the problem is
inside the colum. The easiest fix is to get a used colum.
If you have a cable. Disconnect it at the transmission first. if it still won't
shift, disconnect the cable at the colum. If it shifts, replace the cable.
If not. You're back to replacing the colum. In either case, block the wheels, and make sure the linkage connection at the transmission moves freely. Hope this helps. Good luck.

In my 95 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 just had the transmission rebuilt 3 weeks ago I was driving down the road and it shifted 1st to 2nd fine but from 2nd to 3rd it reved up all the way to 4500 rpms before...

That could be a perfect reason to take it back to the shop where it was just repaired for repeat service. Either that or you spun out in the mud.

1995 gmc sierra 1500 automatic transmission idles fast, and late shifts

Do you have a service engine light on? If so the first thing to do would be to check for what codes may be stored.
You can also check for vacuum leaks. A good place for a leak is the TB base gasket. Those start to leak and give a fast idle.
As for the late shifts, just about all you can do is check fluid level. The shifts are computer controled. 93+ trucks have the 4L60E. Not even a TV cable to check adjustment on.
Fix the fast idle and the late shifts issue may go away.

Why wont my transmission not shift into any gears on my 89 gmc sierra?

Do you really think a transmission or the vehicles
other systems, is all that simple, that someone on the
internet without the vehicle to test drive or check out,
would even be able to guess?

We can only guess at technical questions, when
someone has actually started to work on it & needs
some advice

1995 GMC P-UP 4 wheel drive will not engage. Worked fine last night, got up this morning and it would not engage. This model GMC has the manual shift in the floor.

Drive forward, put it in neutral, the into reverse. If you have not used the 4wd for awhile it will need vacuum to activate and disengage

My tranny wont get a positive shift into drive and does not move forward but has a positive shift in reverse and works. Is it a filter change or rebuild.

Filter should be ok,if this is 4L60E you could have dirty pressure switches pull pan down and look for pieces in pan sounds like reaction drum shell gear broke off.
