Car won't start not the battery, starter or fuel pump what else besides gas will make it sound like it want to start but it won't turn over

Hi Candice,

The car also needs ignition. Depending on the car and its age, this can be the coil, distributor cap, points, rotor, wires & spark plugs for older cars and add a computer, sensors, coil packs, and more for newer cars.

Without a ignition - spark at the spark plugs - the engine will not run.

Van will not start. Battery is strong. Starter is turning over, but suddenly - and without warning - the van will not start.

  • check fuel supply(pump)..if no fuel....
check fuel pump relays and fuel pump
  • check ignition (or spark)at the plugs..no spark check plugs/damaged plug leads/faulty coil pack

Gets gas gets spark but don't start. new fuel

1. does it turn over? if so, strong, or weak? 2. did you replace the fuel filter? 3. coil packs, or distributor (pack(s) can be tested) if distributed check cap and rotor, replace coil, but first check starter relay - 4. Check all ignition fuses, starter fuse - (along with relay{above}) 5. Check all connections from battery - positive, negative etc.

Car wont start

do you have spark out of the coil into the cap? if so i would suggest removing the cap and testing for continuity between the center plug (coil input) and the spring loaded button on the inside also check the rotor, if you have no spark from coil at all be sure you have it wired correctly and be sure the coil wire did not get pulled apart in the ends please rate -jeff
