2005 Dodge Ram Automatic transmission problem

I am have an intermitten transmission problem with my 2005 Dodge Ram QuadCab 4x4, 5.9 Cummins (48RE Transmission).

Sometimes the transmission will not shift into 3rd or 4th gears. If I stop the vehicle, turn off the engine and sit for 30 seconds or so then restart, the vehicle will shift fine. As I said this is intermitten and sometime might not do it for 2-3 days then will flare up maybe once or twice during a days, then again not for a couple of days.

My wife is getting ready to take it to a shop and have the computer checked to see if there are any faults. I have searched the internet for possible problems and they have ranged from a bad input/output speed sensor, Govenor Pressure Sensor, Governor Pressure Solenoid.

We have changed the filter and fluids.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you

I had this problem with a friends 05 dodge 3500. i dropped the pan off the transmission, changed the governor pressure soleniod, trans filter and adjusted front and rear bands. also increased transmission pressure. this solved the problem he was having. you will need to have pressure gauges and a few special wrenches to do this yourself. also there is a valve in the transmission lines that has to be drilled out. this work not recommened unless you know what you are doing.

How can I get my 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 5.9 48re out of limp mode?

http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/911-urgent-situations/909314-p2769-p0973-2007-5-9-w-48re-limp-mode.html#/topics/909314?_k=cp8azv&nocache=1469908570493

this is for the Cummins but sounds like the issue you are having. Not sure why the voltage would go so low as to cause an issue...makes me suspect a failed component inside the tcm (assuming that is where the voltage comes from) causing low voltage to the circuts.

Will a transmission out of a dodge 3/4 ton with a v10 fit in a 1995 of the same?

yes they both use a 48re trans. so does the diesel. a 5.9gas and 5.2 uses a 47re. all dodge v10s and 5.9 diesels in all years 2 wheel and 4 x4 use a 48re. some models don't have the overdrive portion on the back of trans but you can put it on one that doesn't and you can add or remove a transfer case to any of them. you can even use a 47 re it just has weaker bands and cluches
