Timing camshaft


for gti engine , you will need a timing tool
this one has both timing belt and chain, first you need to line up the chain and it will require the timing tool .
for the belt there should be two marks one on the cam sproket and one on the crank sproket. you will have to line up the marks with ( OT).

2003 vw gti turns over but wont fire


Check to make sure you are getting fire. Do you have fuel pressure. There will be valve on the fuel rail (looks like an over sized tire valve) Turn the engine over a few times and push the center part of that valve on the fuel rail (stay clear) Fuel should spray out. If not its either a bad fuel relay or the fuel pump is bad. If you have both fuel and fire, Then do a compression test on all cylinders.If you have no compression, the timing belt may have broke. Hope this helps

I found a hole in the back of my 2003 GTI 1.8T muffler, is it a hard job to replace it and do I need any special tools?


Most exhaust pipes are just bolt on and bolt off , held up with rubber bushes a easy job ;)) have fun

they do leak kits in auto parts stores. if it's not that bad it should work. other wise, est. $200 gas tank, 3hours labor.

Are you sure you are seeing smoke, not steam?
A head gasket failure that connects the water jacket to the outside air could cause steam but not smoke.

Cooling fans do not run normally or in AC mode on 2003 VW GTI VR6


Check cooling fans not faulty - run freely.
Check the operation of the cooling fan control relay.
Replace relay, and observe if this fixes the problem.
