It may need oil pressure. Some of these light go off when the pressure is low. Get the pressure checked @ idle & high RPM.
It could be a bad sensor as well. Check for power at the sensor. If it is for oil level, then it will be at the bottom of the oil pan. The pressure sensor is in the block.
The tapping could be a result of under lubed valves from low pressure, or it could be the hydraulic lifters, which is pretty normal in most cars.
Good Luck. I love the Saab.

Theres a couple of things this could be, first, it might be the hydraulic tappits, they might be worn and is a common fault an cars with them, they might just need cleaning or the may need replacing normally 100,000 miles would wear them, other thing , has the oil got low at any time?, the lift pipe for the oil pump tends to get blocked , which in turn reduces the oil flow to the top of the engine, i gather thats where the tapping noise is comming from? you can try listening and find out wich tappets are warn, get a screw driver, place it on the rocker cover (top of engine) and place your ear to the screw driver and move allong from front to back see if its loud tapping or quiet you will see or should i say hear wich ones they are...hope that helps

Can the tensioner make the chain to be loose inside the engine an cause it to make noise an show sign of oil on the dashboard?

A loose timing chain tensioner will not cause the oil lamp to light. The noise you are hearing is most likely valve noise due to oil starvation. The oil light comes on when the oil pressure is too low to be safe for the engine. Most people believe it is to tell you the oil level is low. A low oil level can cause low oil pressure is the oil is below the sump, but low oil is not the cause of the light - low oil pressure is. This can be due to a number of things, such as a bad oil pump, faulty bypass regulator at the oil filter, loose sump pipe connection, or even an oil gallery plug that comes out internal to the engine. You need to stop using the vehicle immediately and have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical guage to determine if the problem is the oil ressure or the sensor that lights the light. The chain tensioner being loose CAN cause noise, and that itself is an issue that should be fixed, as in many vehicles a loose chain can jump time, or jam and break, and since many cars have interference engines, either of these scenarios can cause severe internal damage to the engine.

Oil light is on car is full of oil engine is making taping noise is the oil pump gone bad on a 2000 crysler concord with a 3.2 engine

The oil light comes on when oil pressure falls below 7 pounds of pressure. A tapping noise from the engine is an indication of poor oil flow/pressure supply. You may have an oil pump failure or if high mileage, excessive bearing clearances that can cause oil pressure problems.

Knocking knoise under 1500 rpm

If your car has hydraulic tappets and low low oil pressure at engine speeds then it can make tapping noises. Oil pressure is needed to maintaine the tappets clearances, excessive cleaeances will produce noises.

Got a 311cdi mercedes sprinter ,mileage is 250k drives well but engine is making loud tapping noise & there is oil in radiator. please help.

Your low on oil (the tapping noise) because its in your cooling system. Your vehicle uses the radiator as a cooling system for your engine oil. It runs through it to help cool the engine oil. If you have oil in the radiator, you need a new radiator before you cause more damage to the engine and the cooling system.

Have a 2003 toyota corolla and oil pressure light came on we changed oil and now its on again what could it be?

If you just changed the oil, therefore we can assume that the oil level is correct at this time and that the correct oil viscosity (5W-20 or 5W-30) was used. Are there any unusual noises coming from the engine? Like, maybe "tapping" or "squeaking" sounds? If so, then the oil pump may have gone bad and is not supplying adequate oil pressure to the engine. Continued use of the vehicle can result in serious engine damage. Have the oil pressure checked by a shop ASAP.

If the vehicle is running normally and no unusual noises are heard, then the oil pressure sensor (a.k.a. oil pressure sending unit) may be sending a false signal to the dash "idiot light". Replace the oil pressure switch.

Hope this helps.

Have a Nice Day !!!

Hi, My oil light came on this morning, I freaked. I only got out about 200 ft when this occurred, so i drove it back in and plugged it back in due to the cold weather where I live. Why would the oil...

the first thing that you should do when a light comes on is the check the item that the light is warning about, the OIL LEVEL. if is low, add to the full mark, and find out why its low. Do not drive the car 10 feet with the oil light on. check the oil level ASAP.

Oil pressure light on and knocking noise now

The light comes on when the oil pressure is too low, when the sending unit is bad, and, if you have too much oil in the engine and it whips the oil so much that the oil pump cannot pull the oil in since it is mainly bubbles

The knocking sound comes from a shortage of oil to he bearings, tapping comes from the valve train under the rocker cover (cylinder head).

Make sure you haven't lost any oil & that it isn't overfull and correct that if needed. Beyond what I've mentioned, you would be looking at the oil pump needing to be replaced or major engine repair if the bearings have spun or worn excessively.

good luck
