Question about 1996 Ford Crown Victoria

The battery amps goes really low when sitting at a stoplight. Could this be the alternator going bad??

It could be alot of things a wore out belt,a bad belt tensioner, altenator,or even a bad cell in you battery,have it looked at,,bring these up to the shop,make a mark on your altenator before you go that you can see,but dont tell them, so they dont put a belt on and tell you the replaced the altenator..i used to work for a shop that the owner would do just that!!!!! have us nput a 30 or 40$ belt on and charge the people for an altenator...

MIGHT BE ALTERNATOR, REMOVE AND HAVE IT BENCH TESTED. CHECK YOUR BATTERY CABLES OR REPLACE THEM,MAY LOOK GOOD BUT CORODED INSIDE CABLE.

running or not , the engine, that be big time , important....??????
if running is engine hot cold (engine coolant, not air temp)


this is called bad power (12vdc) distribution.
or is the alternator failing
or is the engine RPM going to low, 800 is normal for most cars.
if not running, its a bad battery (or just discharged) or is corroded battery lugs (service them)

if engine RPM drops too low the Alternator will just cut out
and the 15v power is now 12. a visable dim can be seen.
causes running. are
1: alternator belt slipping, sure service it.
2: alternator regulator bad.
3: battery bad. or bad lugs.

if you have a voltmeter all this is easy.

Car won't start, inside lights won't work and I already checked my fuses and the light switch/dimmer and lastly my window won't go down so I wonder if replacing the window motor will help with the lig


First things first. Take your battery out & take it to lacal auto parts store to "load test"it. The issues you are describing can happen w/a really low battery that isn't completely dead. If the battery is good have the parts store charge it I go back & try again. I fit is bad u might need a new battery. Check that problem first. Alternator might have gone bad & drained battery.

Voltage drop


Alternators have a regulator attached.IF the engine is idling normally at 650 or greater rpms while this is happening,the alternator is probably going bad.No squealing or any indication the belt is slipping? don-ohio (:^)

The charge light comes on and car tries to stop all dash lights start flickering.


sounds like you are going to need an alternator, and possible a battery. You need a digital volt meter (less than $15 at most home improvement stores) and check the voltage at the battery posts when the car is idling, it should be at least 14 volts but not more than 15 (and that should be briefly)-the battery should be at least 12.4 volts at the posts when the car has been sitting (overnight) or you might have to replace the battery too-honestly, your caddy is a killer on electrical system loads, so the alternator and battery should be replaced together, with the most heavy duty components you can get. I have a Lincoln (same boat, so to speak), and I replaced my 130 amp alternator with a 200 amp unit from DB Electrical (they are in Tennessee), and a new battery, 1000 amp @ 32 degrees, 850 @ 0 degrees, and that was 4 years ago. Still no problems, it really is necessary in these cars due to heavy electrical demands.

Electrical issue with 1992 pontiac sunbird. lately when i put my blinker on it is really, really slow (unless i am accelerating) my speedometer needle moves up and down slightly, then the anit-lock brake...


How much amperage is the alternator putting out? To check this, put a volt meter across the battery terminals. Boost car & let run. Remove booster cables & read the meter. It should read over 13.2 & if battery is weak or uncharged it should be as high as 14.5. You could have part of your diode trio burnt causing the alternator to only charge when reving high & current in low demand i.e. when lights radio, & other electrical equipment off. I think this is the problem. Good luck! Also you may have the trunk mercury switch malfunctioning & leaving the light on in the trunk thus draining the battery. Temporarily remove bulb & see if problem persists.

My silverado 3500 01 battery keeps going


Ck the charge rate at the battery posts. The proper range is 23.6 to 14.2v , The higher the voltage the llower the amps. Ie; at 13v Alternator is about 10% under capacity. @ 12v it is charging at max capacity. @ 15 v isthe alt is not charging but frying your battery. 9amps is ok if battery is fairly charged but at start up it should sit on 13-13.6 volts. for about 15 seconds the start climbing to less charge towards 14.2.

Car will cut off in the middle of driving


is the red batt. light on in dash,if it is check all connection at alternator if there clean and tight,if there ok,start car unhook one of the batt. cable,dont let touch anything be careful,if car stops the alternator is defect

Good alternator & battery, but battery goes dead just sitting


The regulator could be sticking in the alternator. Unplug the alternator and see if the battery goes dead. I replaced an alternator once and the new regulator was bad.
