Question about 2003 Oldsmobile Alero

1 Answer

Shifting/RPM problems Lately, my 2003 olds alero has been having shifting issues. The RPM gauge seems to rise out of the norm when I accelerate. Also, my car tries to shift again at 45 mph (the last shift occurs at 35 mph). My car has a just hit the 120k mile mark and a bracket from the right motor mount is cracked/broken. Any ideas?

Thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to check the fluid when I get off work. To answer your question, no, there isn't any noise when I back up. I appreciate your help.

Check tranny fluid. if tranny fluid checks good then buy a bottle of "lucas transmission additive". this is the best on market. you can buy at atuozone, oreillys or napa. the transmission fluid can only be checked while engine is warm and running in park. another stupid question. when you back up does the car make a funny squeaking nosie? if so then your u-joints are the culprit.

If the rpm flairs the trans is slipping & done

If it won't go over 40 mph the exhaust converter is damaged

I just bought a 2001 pontiac grand am se with 99890 miles. I would like to know what rpm is the proper shift point from first to second gear? Mine shifts at like 3000 to 3500 rpm and shifts firmly is that...

Hello, well at what rpm it shifts at of course depends on how hard your pressing the accelerator at that moment,if you floor the accelerator it will shift at higher rpm (red line) but if you take off very slowly it should shift at a much lower rpm....but to answer your question 3000-3500 is a good shifting rpm( if the gauge red lines at 6000-6500 rpm) and firm shifting is a good thing, slow, sluggish and hesitant shifting is a sign of bad things to come from a tranny!! ps keep the engine oil,and transmission oil changed for long life out of your car engine and tranny. good luck and enjoy your new car......yz-maniac.

95 dodge dakota having hard time shifting.

Try a tranny service change a place that changes the filter the pan gasket and fluid not some of these quick places that just drain a couple quarts out of the tranny lines and thats it that wont help but a complete tranny service should help.

Hard down shifts

Check the transmission fluid level, see if there is any foaming in the fluid which is bad, and condition, If the fluid is low the transmission fluid pressure could be low and if the transmission fluid filter is dirty, that could also be restricted the fluid flow.
The transmission fluid should be bright red like strawberry in colour, if it's dark like burgundy then it's time to change the transmission oil and filter. The hard down shifting could be a servo that is sticking caused by dirt in the fluid, have a Transmission shop service the transmission and scan the car's ECM for any codes that may be causing your shifting problem.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Shifting issues with a 2003 dodge neon sxt

Here's what I found one my old 95' neon. On top of where the shifter linkage attaches to transmission is another half moon shaped (if i remember correctly) linkage that control the throttle valve operation, for kickdown etc for passing. Mine would seize up occasionally from the weather etc & it would hang in lower gear forever before shifting up, then shift down hard when stopping. It even made my gas pedal stiffer to push. It's hard to see it without removing some things out of the way on drivers side. Anyway, that little piece on top of shift linkage has to move very freely. When you get to it, spray it with lots of penetrating lube like WD-40 and shaft it sits on top of & keep working it by hand until you can move it all the way, both ways, easily. Then apply a good coat of white lithium grease or similar to keep it lubed up. I had to do mine about 3 times in 5 years. Give it a try & let me know. I do have a picture somewhere of what /where it is, so if your stuck or not sure, let me know and I'll see if I still have it.
