If you haven't done so already, change the spark plugs and the fuel filter, and put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank. This should help.

Start with a tune up. Always take care of the maintenance to narrow the problem. It sounds like fuel isn't getting combusted correctly. Weak spark or fuel delivery is possible.
Change the air filter, and the spark plugs. Check the resistance in you plug wires with an OHM meter to the specs in the manual. Check for any small cracks in your distributor cap, and replace if suspect.
Run some injector cleaner to your fuel tank, and check the seal area of your injectors for any leak sounds. They do have fuel injector kits to replace the o-rings when they go out. The injectors are usualy easy to access. A mechanic stethescope can aid in listening with some isolation.
Check the fuel filter for any leaks at the connections.
Fuel pressure regulator could be suspect if the car isn't running well. It is easy to replace this part.
Smell any gas under the hood? Look for leaks with engine off, but key to ON, so the pressure is there.
At worst, it could be worn valves or the valves not seating correctly. This would require the heads to be pulled, so the valves could be removed and the seats in the head can be repaired at a head shop.
Good Luck!

How many miles per gallon does a 1990 Honda Accord LX get?

The figures quoted for a new vehicle are pretty irrelivant because its what the car does with YOUR driving style that counts. So do this; fill the tank up so it won't hold another drop. Then take it for a long drive, combining highway and town driving (aim for about 100 miles) then fill the tank again. Then work out how much fuel you put in in gallons and divide that figure by the miles you covered.
E.g. 4 gallons of fuel used to travel 100 miles
4 / 100 = 25mpg.
When you refill the tank again drive again just to lower the level in the tank cos fuel expands when its warm and escapes out through the the breather hose which can be dangerous. But this method will tell you what mpg the car does when YOU are driving. The basic rules are, change gear early and dont work the engine hard. And on a highway (motorway? - Im from the UK) keep your speed to 56mph. Thats the optimum cruising speed manufacturers quote for ecconomy.
Hope this helps and happy driving

1998 Honda accord EX with 75k miles in it. Major tune up was done in 2009 and tire has been replaced. Having mileage issue since few years and giving between 260 to 270 miles per tank (15 gallon). Last...

Make sure the air filter is clean. Have a diagnostic scan done to the engine to see if there are any trouble codes or issues that would reduce your gas mileage. You are getting around 11 or 12 miles to the gallon, which isn't very good. But, judging by the low amount of miles on the car, you apparently do all your driving in traffic, and short distances with a lot of stop and go. If you let the engine warm up for long periods of time, especially in cold weather, that will drop your mileage considerably. Letting a car warm up for 10 or 15 minutes in the winter gets you 0 miles per gallon for that amount of time. Add all these factors up, and figure in the poor quality of today's fuel, 12 miles per gallon is not too far off from what you should be getting. If you have the v6 engine, your mileage was probably around 15mpg when the car was new. Now if you were to take your car on a road trip where you could drive a long distance with the cruise control set on 65mph, you would probably get around 18mpg.

When the gas light comes on how much gas do i have left in the tank?

Hi:
I am pretty sure that the light comes on when you have approx 1/8 tank left. In my honda, with a 12 gallon tank, that equated out to 1.5 gallons, or approx 45 driving miles on flat land in the city. Of course, you should check your average miles per gallon with your driving style , as well as filling the tank once the light comes on, to see how many gallons are left, and you will have an accurate number!
