Where to start,
- Check exhaust
-- Blueish smoke, Could be Fried Cylendar Rings, Verify With Compression test - Also check if the oil level is going down
-- White Smoke, Could be spark plugs, wires, or coil pack
--- Check oil for a white or brownish foam, if so head or intake gasket.

- if 3.4L, intake gaskets are a common issue, sometimes you can hear it sucking if you accelerate from the throttle body. (Be carefull, moving parts!)

- See if vehicle is having a problem with climbing over a certain RPM, If so
-- Plugged Fuel Filter
-- Plug Catalytic Converter
-- Plugged Air Filter

- If automatic
-- See if transmission is kicking down a gear during harder acceleration.

Also note that a bad TPS (Throttle Position Censor) located on the throttle body can cause this as well. Often felt as very poor acceleration or studdering during acceleration.

Failing O2 censor can cause an issue like this as well, unhooking the censor completely will put the car in a failure default setting that will allow it to operate close to normal, but make sure you replace it if it has failed to avoid replacing Catalytic Converter as well.

Start there, but it could be many other things as well. If check engine light is on, get it read. or pick up a code reader and read it yourself.

TPS? Car studders at low speeds when climbing hills


YOU HAVE A TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKUP ISSUE, HAVE SOMEONE LIKE THE DEALER,AUTO ZONE OR IF YOU ARE HANDY CHECK FOR CODES, NO CODES....THEN TAKE THE CAR OUT STEADY DRIVE AT AROUND 45 MPH, GENTLY HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL JUST ENOUGH TO MAKE THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS GO ON BUT NOT HARD ENOUGH TO STOP THE CAR...DO YOU FEEL THE CONVERTER SHIFT IN AND OUT EACHJ TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL IS TOUCHED MAINTAINING A STEADY 45 MPH SPEED, IF IT THAT SAME SHUDDER YOU ARE FEELING THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, NOT AN EASY JOB AS THE TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REMOVED TO GET AT IT.SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS.......

P301 Code on 2001 Ford Taurus SOHC (not FFL) with 253K miles. Replaced plugs and wires with Bosch Platinum +4 plugs and Motorcraft wire set. P301 returned almost immediately. Engine performance extremely...


Coil pack should in the front top of motor, with engine running remove one spark plug wire at a time from coil pack ( careful not to get shock ) they should all have spark, if one don't replace coil pack.

sounds like a blockage to the heater matrix ,not a job for us enthusiasts,might involve front dash removal to accses it.although an engine reverse flush could do the trick.

Missing and backfiring during acceleration and climbing hills.


Could be vapor lock in the fuel system. Next time it does this, stop and try removing the fuel filler cap... Hope this helps...;-)

CVT problem


Simple answer, no, it will not most likely cause any increased wear to your engine or transmission. Yes, it is normal for the engine to rev while climbing a hill while in cruise control.

The cruise is designed to be used on flat (or semi-flat) stretches of highway at 55mph or higher so you don't have to hold the fuel pedal the whole time and your foot doesn't get tired. The cruise control system will try it's best to keep your vehicle rolling at the set speed, increasing/decreasing the throttle to compensate for changes in engine load.

If you are driving with cruise on, try lightly putting your foot on the pedal and you might notice that the system will actually move the pedal itself. If you are in cruise, and you come up to a large hill, try putting your foot on the pedal and getting it up the hill on your own w/o cruise then resetting cruise once you are off the hill.

Also, cruise is not supposed to be used in moderate/ thick traffic or on country roads with a lot of rolling hills. The cruise control system is a "dumb" system meaning (not that it's pointless) but it will only change the pedal as the speed changes and it has no idea what's coming up next, even while you are already on the hill.

So, it is normal operation of the cruise control to try to compensate for a hill by constantly revving up the engine and letting it fall back down to try to keep moving at the exact same speed you set it for. If this is a bother, you can always use your foot to hold the pedal while climbing the hill normally.

1992 ford tempo 2.3L diagnostic code 10 what does it mean?


Code PO10 has to do with the "Camshaft Position Actuator circuit Bank 1" an actuator is a relay,solenoid or motor that send a signal to the cumputer that something is wrong.i think in this case it is the Camshaft Position Sensor or the camshaft interrupter magnet. Probably the sensor has to be replaced. It is located on the engine block.
