Tire pressure monitor light staying on

I bought a 2008 chevy silverado 2500hd, the previous owner had over 80lbs in all the tires, which is way too much and makes for a rough ride. I lowered them down to 50lbs in each tire, now my tire pressure monitor light comes on, even though all tires are right at 50lbs. how do i get this stubborn light off?

The dealer will have to do it its a program in the car computer that is set up to monitor tire pressure since you changed the pressure the computer knows the change and is letting you know there is a possible leak.you can have it altered at the dealer only.

I lost the owner's manual of 2008 scion tc. This flower vase shape light with exclamatioin point in the middle just came on. What does it mean?

It sounds like the tire pressure monitor warning light. Does the light look like this?
c64c8b9.jpgCheck and adjust the pressure in all the tires (most Toyotas even monitor the spare tire pressure so check that also). If you find one tire with significantly lower air pressure then the rest bring the car to a repair shop to have them find and repair the leak. Once the air in the tires are correct the light will go off.

I got slightly larger new tires only on my 08 chevy 2wd silverado now got a "Service Tire Monitor System"

If the tires were the exact size the problem would not be there. Replace the sensor to the size tires or replace the tires back to the same size it was before

Customer wants to run rear tires at 60psi instead of the recomended 80 psi. Can the tire pressure values in the computer be reset so the tire pressure light stays off?

hte pressures can be set but GM has sent out a bulletin that anyone doing this would be held personally liable. so you most likely wont find a dealer that is going to do. reason being if a tire fails due to underinflation gm does not want to be in middle of lawsuit

Resetting the tire pressure indicator on a chevy

Typically a tire pressure monitoring system uses an indirect measurement, and only measures the differences between the pressure in all of your tires. It does this by monitoring the speed at which the wheels are rotating. If one of the tires has low pressure, it will have to spin faster than the others, because the tire is partially flat, and the diameter of the tire is smaller.
If you are running different tire pressures in the front and back tires, then it might trigger the light to come on.
This might also be due to uneven tire wear or different size tires on the front and back.
Check the tire wear, and temporarily run equal tire pressure in the front and rear. It might take a few miles for the light to reset, so give it some time.
