Question about Chrysler New Yorker

1 Answer

I have recently been given a 93 chrysler new yorker to drive to and from work. It sat for 1.5 yrs because the fuel pump went out. Well, the fuel pump was replaced, and the oil was changed (black). I drove it 50 miles since then and on the way home yesterday the check engine light came on and the oil pressure gauge bounced from Low to mid a few times and then dropped to 0. I was only a few feet from home so i parked it. Well, this morning I started it up and it was fine at first. I drove it a couple miles, it was good. I let it idle for a while and the check engine light came back on, and the oil pressure started to bounce again. I monitored for a bit, shut it off and then started it back up. It was fine when I restarted it, oil pressure raised to normal. I'm hoping the engine isnt shot. Any ideas?

The 1st thing u need to do is have a shop remove the oil pressure sending unit and hook up a special oil pressure test gauge to verify wether the engine oil pressure is low or the oil press light sending unit is just defective, if the oil pressure is low the engine would start making noise, the lifters in the engine and the rocker arms would quickly start making a ticking noise, if u have this noise the oil pump check valve is sticking and the oil pump will need to be replaced, if the oil pressure is really low and the sender is working correctly to the engine warning light then don't drive it anymore until u fix it or you will need an engine very quickly.

94 New Yorker, replaces fuel pump and fuel filter and....

It's either not getting fuel or spark. Have you checked to see if you are getting any spark to the plugs. Take one of the plug wires off its plug and place it close to the frame or engine. When you crank the engine you should be able to see a spark jump from the plug wire to the frame. if you do not see a spark you have a problem with the ignition system. If you do see a spark then the problem is with the fuel system.

Hope this helps Good luck Loringh
