Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

The heater no longer works. The damper or fin

The heater no longer works. The damper or fin that closes off the cold air and switches to warm air is broken. I was told that repair requires dismantling the dashboard and cost of $1000 (mostly labor) to repair. Is there any other way to fix this at a reduced cost?

Look up Heater treater. Had same problem with my 2002. They have parts and a fix for around $150, you will need a dremil tool to do it. But you do not have to remove the dash. (www.heatertreater.net)

I have a 1999 jeep grand Cherokee limited edition my heater only throws out cold air why is that?

this is easy. (are you moving or parked) ill assume stopped.
first is the blower working, (seems so)
ill guess that no heat in all vent modes, and re-circ, on.
next is the engine fully hot, hot means at 180F or more holding
(we measure it with a pyro gun)
next, are both heater core hoses hot/ at the fire wall? and equal at 180f?
yes, good. then the damper is stuck closed i the heater box.
no , then there is heater core blockage. (skipping every 2 year flushes are you, sure...)

it only takes 2 things
hot water ,p[assing through the heater core
and air passing through its fins to get hot cab air.
just 2.

2011 jeep liberty heater blows cold air

gas not diesel right?
what engine? option? size?
there are only 3 causes (and many parts to fail)
  1. engine coolant not hot at 180F or more.
  2. said coolant not flowing Through heater core (feel the 2 hoses?)
  3. air not flowing over heater coil. , damper stuck closed?

once the above is found.we can diagnose why?

the FSM covers all this , in the HVAC chapter.
say engine is hot, and core is hot.
you check the damper and its stuck closed.
?
1: controls not telling damper to move. (falling)
2: damper motor bad. (called the HVAC acuator by jeep)

on this new of car, we must scan it, the scan tool that supports
jeeps will set HVAC errors aplenty.
my innova 3160 can do that.

my FSM dont do that new a car.

or
engine not hot
heater core not hot
or damper door stuck closed on core, blocking heat.

Car wont blow hot air heater

all cars... (otto cycle petrol /gasoline)
hot Air comes from hot water , in the engine,
so the first check is that the coolant does hit 180F and hold.
if not the thermostat in the engine is toast.
ok 180F , hot motor.
next ,some cars have a water valve for the heater coil
(alldata dot com, read the manual)
if the valve or its dash control to it is broken then it sticks closed.
other cars have no valve and they only block the core (bypass) the air to make hot and cold.
that too is a control. there are 3 types used, cable, vacuum and electric. on all cars.
what you have , is based on YEAR and options.
the book shows how to fix this. me ,just look at the controls.
if there is a cable then I make sure the cable works.
The heater has what are called damper, (flaps)
they open or close.
and if you have A/C more.
if the engines is hot. my guess, is the bypass damper is stuck
in the bypass mode. (fresh air only)

the best way to work on any car is RTM
you do that because these parts vary radically by year. and make.
alldata dot com is the solution , under HVAC.

2005 jeep liberty blows cold air through the heater.

could be the thermostat if it was just stating to go bad, could also be a vacume problem not letting the door for the ac/heat close all the way for a few min.and if its really cold out like below 35,then its going to take longer to warm up,my jeep takes like around 20 min at idle to warm up.yours could be a case of over cooling in cold weather too ie(electric fans on before it warms up)that would be the thermostatic sensor.

2000 Yukon denali, recharged air conditioning systemt, blows cold air in the rear, warm air up front?

Hi, Sounds like your actuater for your heater box damper is bad. Its munted under the dash over the center hump. you will have to remove the cover that goes the length of the heater box to find it. The actuater motor should move back and forth with the temp knob going from cold to hot.

Air conditioner charged won't blow cold air, heater core will not let cold air enter into the vehicle. If I close off the heater it will blow cold air. Heat blows all the time even in off postions

It sounds like you either have bad controls or stuck dampers in your vents. The stuck dampers are usually caused by plant debris getting in to the air system.

2001 Suzuki XL-7. Heater blows hot one side, cold the other.

No ductwork [to the lower vents] under the dash. They are part of the heater core / blower housing is integrated (all one piece).

After reviewing shop manual, we suspect that one of the three damper flaps is not positioning correctly; or debris has blocked one side (which makes more sense given the symptoms).

We're waiting for the temperatures to get back in the plus numbers to check out the physical arrangement.

Fully warmed up; blowing hot and cold; Suzuki XL-7

Its just a vent damper plate not operating, it's like a gate which controls the flow of air,,usually they are operated by vacuum, or cables.
Service center time, unless you are handy with your own repairs.

Car just blows out cold air from heater

there is something wrong with your coolant system. Turn your car on, check your fan. If the fan runs nonstop, your relay switch to the fan needs to be changed. If its not the fan, its the thermostat. The thermostat is broke. If the thermostat is broke, it prevents your vehicle from warming up. The thermostat is a temperature Regulator for the engine. If your antifreeze is running nonstop in a circular motion, your engine will run cold. Your engine wont start that cold in the winter either.
