1999 Jeep GC Laredosmells hot but never overheats

1999 Grand Cherokee Laredo smells hot but never overheats.
Have to add 1/2 jug of coolant every week or so. Jeep is kept in garage, and there is never coolant on the garage floor. Also no signs of spray under the hood.
Oil is fine, so the coolant isn't leaking into the engine.
Any suggestions?

Depending upon how many miles are in your week, it is possible that the leak is so small that it is only coming out as "seepage" which is being burned off or evaporating before it reaches the ground. It is also possible for it to be going out the tailpipe at a rate so small that it is going undetected. i suggest you have a shop do a fluorescent dye test and a hydrocarbon test to find the source. Sometimes you can see it if it's on the outside if you look carefully. Look around the head/block parting line and see if there is any white residue at or below it.(same goes for all hose connections etc) Also look under the bottom of the water pump pulley...there is a "weep hole" located there that will begin seeping if the pump seal is going bad. Also check the radiator cap. If it isn't sealing correctly it can allow coolant loss that will go undetected while driving.
It is often difficult to find a small leak but if taken care of now you will avoid far more extensive damage later.
good luck

Your water pump pulley looks the same as all the other pulleys on the front of the engine but it is attached to the water pump. The water pump is attached to the lower radiator hose...follow it from the radiator 'till you get there.

Have the cooling system preasure tested this will show were its leaking,it could be a waterpump with a small leak or a loose hose, and the hot motor evaporates it, i ve never seen a newer jeep burn coolant through the motor, its leaking somewhere.have it put up on a lift with the system preasurized and youll find your leak, hope this helps.

I have to add coolant every week to my 2002 jeep grand cherokee laredo, any ideas on what the problem might be

Yeah, could be the thermostat. I would replace it, just for the peace of mind. If it's stuck partially closed, it might cause a little coolant to be boiled out, hence your having to add coolant so often. That coolant has to be going somewhere. look at the bottom of your water pump for whitish deposits or evidence of moisture indicating leakage-bad water pump bearing or seal. It might evaporate quickly when driving, and not leave any drops on floor when parked
Does your car overheat at all? If there's any indication of running hot, I would have a compression test done. Well, Good luck.

Once you add coolant it will shut it self off unless the float is sticking or there is an electrical fault in the wiring or BCM.

If you put the thermostat in correctly (spring towards the engine) that should be OK. Likely if the water pump wasn't leaking or had a bad bearing, you wasted your $ on that.
If you re-filled it and did not have the heater on high heat, you may have some trapped air in there. But, still overheating says another thing. If you have a blown head gasket, it can pump compression into the cooling system and drive the coolant from the core. It will also overheat. You can have that tested at most any decent shop that will do a hydrocarbon test to find that.I think someone makes a chemical test kit for that but not sure if it's very expensive or not. White smoke from tailpipe will also be an indicator as will be any coolant in the engine oil or coolant on one or more spark plugs. If it turns out that it has a head gasket problem don't stop looking for problems as often a faulty fan or obstructed radiator can cause the initial overheat that caused the gasket to fail.

Locks, windows, and coolant sensor

I would spend the money on repairing the coolant leak,do that first then concentrate on the other problems. The LR window problem is probably due to lack of use, give it some lube.I would guess the drivers door lock actuator is faulty or out of adjustment.
