I received a letter from Ford about my 3 year old Ford Focus saying that it was being recalled for a modification. I have it booked into a Ford Main Agent for Thurs but have misplaced the recall letter. Can they email me another or let Evans Halshaw in Edinburgh know about it.

Let the dealer know and they can look up the notice and your cars history from the VIN number.

What's keeping my trunk from shutting?

Fuses work or they don't, continuity or not. If it's bad, it is burnt out and not giving voltage, it doesn't work.

When you press the button to open the trunk, a solenoid pulls the catch, and the trunk opens and the catch remains open.

When you press down on the truck lid, the catch base is pressed mechanically and it locks shut.

Your issue is almost certainly 'Adjustment', the catch isn't going down low enough when you press or slam.

Open the trunk, use a screwdriver in the slot to close the catch. Get someone to open the trunk release and watch it open. It it does, it works. You need to slacken off the bolts on the catch or the keeper plate and move it closer.

Recall of 1998 windstar axle replacement in Minn. i never received a letter to have mine repaired. I bought mine in Waseca ,Mn. at Deml's Ford in 1998. I would appreciate a letter so i can have mine...

Hello fellow Windstar owner. I just took my 2001 Windstar into a local Ford Dealer here in Chicagoland to have my rear axle inspected. I can tell you that FORD is taking this recall issue very seriously and with that you will NOT need to produce any recall letter to get your vehicle inspected and then repaired. FORD goes by youre VIN Number as a means to track everything like this recall issue. By the way, FORD really impressed me with the repair that was done tommy rear axle and I am very hard to please (I am a former auto mechanic). You will not have any problems with FORD taking a look at your van.

Someone gave me 96 Windstar earlier this year and I believer the speed control modification issue has already been taken car of. The work was done close to the master cylinder to prevent fire am I...

You should have a Dealer run the Vin# for you again. Most likely if you were sent a letter it does still need a trip back to the Dealer. When the fuses were added to the Cruise Control the company found that it created a second problem.

The recall is for the second Cruise Control problem. Its a free checkup, you may be able to get an appointment to speed things up.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Whats the deal with the recall on the speed control modification system? It's recall # 09S09 and I stumbled upon this when I was looking at Kelly Blue Book Pricing.

It is a recall to inpsect your speed control deactivation switch for leaks. If there is no leak ,a jumper harness with in line fuses in it is installed. If there is a leak the switch is replaced. I hope this helps.

Ford Focus Sputters

The "speed sensor" is throwing way too much fuel through the injectors and flooding the cylinders, new spark plugs would burn longer, but still die after a while, so that makes sense... but I think the problem might go a bit deeper into the engine management system than that. You say it does this at a specific temperature, so a loose connection somewhere is possible inside the EMS, something that breaks a sensor connection at that temperature, due to expansion and contraction of metal parts. Try looking for evidence of that.
