I just needed to know if you have to weld at all when changing the front strut mount on a 2002 impala. I needed to know before my dad travels 5 hours to fix it for me :)

No welding needed, but you MUST have a strut spring compression tool, and then get a wheel alignment. This is best left up to the pros.

How do I replace front strut mount?

I will suppose you are referring to the upper mount, because the lower part is the A frame or control arm.
The upper mount is welded on to the subframe or the inner fender sheet metal.
That mount might be available as an after market part through a sheet metal supplier who services body shops.
God bless your efforts.

Motor mounts

There are a total of four mounts in the engine compartment. There is a motor mount on the passengers side of the motor underneath. There is a transmission mount on the drivers side underneath. There are two Torque-strut mounts (each sold as two pieces) between the top of the motor and the radiator shroud at the front of the engine.

I have a 2001 impala when i accelerate, the front of the car lifts up and both tiers start shaking what could it be.

Sounds like you need struts and possibly strut mounts (always a good idea to get the mount incase the old one breaks).

The piece that holds up the front passenger wheel (i believe its called a strut), is bent or broken, would u happen to kno how much that would approx. cost? its a 2002 chrysler sebring

$61 at autozone:

The strut must be compressed for mounting. Labor is approximately 2 hours. Not sure what labor costs in your area or if your shop will allow you to bring strut or require you to buy from them.

How many motor mounts does a 2002 Chevy Impala have?

There are 3 mounts. 1 on the passenger side of car behind the oil filter, the transmission mount (right above the axle on the driver side), and you also have a torque strut mount that's on top of the engine, as soon as you open the hood of the car

The struts are eating into the where they mount up.The rubber on the top of the strut is all eaten up.

The rubber part at the top is called a stute plate or bearing if replacing strut. Buy them as a complete assembly much easier and safer to put in .and comes with that part & will give better ride, cause it comes with new spring, also and is not much $ more. Hope this is helpful please let us know, if we can of any further assistance.feel free to ask ,Thank You.

NOISEY FRONT SUSPENSION ON BAD ROAD SURFACE .-POTHOLES ETC. OTHERWISE,GREAT. ON SMOOTH,FINE. STANDARD NEW SPRINGS ALL AROUND 5 MONTHS AGO.62 K MILES.

Could be struts/mounts or sway bar links. If you replaced the front struts hopefully they replaced your mounts as well. If the struts were blown they may have damaged the bearings in the mounts.

I need to replace the front struts. Is it the same as replacing shocks?

Hello duaine.
No, the procedures are quite different.
The struts on your impala incorporate the coil spring and an upper mount.
The strut is removed as an assembly of these items.
Then the spring needs to be safely compressed by a tool designed for this, the nut taken off the end of the strut, the spring pressure released and then can be taken apart.
You can now buy complete assembly's at some parts suppliers but they tend to be more costly than simply replacing what you need repaired.
If you have any more details you would like to know, leave them in "add comments" and I will answer you.

I want to know if my 2003 Chevy Impala has shocks and struts

shocks and struts are basically the same thing. i believe struts offer more structeral support to your vehicle too. i'd suggest www.rockauto.com or www.autozone.com to confirm what parts are needed

Front struts replacement

Jack up and secure front end of your vehicle,Take off two front wheels. Loosen to bolt on the bottom of struts (Its a bolt and nut). Remove clip that holds brake hose on to strut and remove hose. DO NOT OPEN BRAKE LINE OR DISCONNECT FROM CALIPER. Remove bolts and remove bottom of strut from knuckle/Hub assembly. Then loosen nuts on strut tower( on top of fender inside hood) (3) nuts, mark exact locations of each nut on strut mount area on upper fender weld. Make sure to hold strut on the bottom so it doesn't drop down on caliper and knuckle or on you possibly.YOU WILL NEED A SPRING COMPRESSOR to compress spring so you can take struts off. MAKE SURE THAT SPRING IN COMPRESSED/SQUEEZED WITH A STRUT COMPRESSOR. Then loose center nut on strut tower(may be covered with a circular rubber cover) If nut spin around with out getting loose use vise grips to hold strut rod ONLY TO REMOVE STRUT NOT TO INSTALL. if you use vise grips to install it will damage strut. When nut is off, remove strut and reinstall new one transfer all rubber boots and cushions from old strut. Good Luck thanks for using FIX-YA.com contact me if you need more help.
