I have a renault cilo sport 172 53 plate with a belt oh pully noise can't find no tensior problem oh power steering pump problem any idea's???

Try to tighten the belts... that maybe the cause of the noise

Two things to check. If your car has a harmonic pulley on the crank shaft check that it is not slipping on the rubber insert and squealing. Second point is when there is no need for power steering ie straight ahead or idling there is no load on the pump so it will feel ok but as soon as you move the position of the steering wheel the valves close off and the pump comes under load. If the drive belt only drives the power pump and it broke then I would suspect a problem in the pump. Check that the belt is the correct size for the pulley groove as if it is too small the belt will run on the bottom of the pulley and slip, and squeal.

make sure your power steering fluid is ok this is a litle harder to inspect as the resivour is located at the power steering pump could also be a bad pully or belt on your drive belt for your alt power steering and water pump as well as the a/c circuits any of these could make a whinny noise its the process of elimation

Well,what happened is that the drive belt came off.The big question is,why? Did the pump sieze up,or did the altenator?Or did you go through a big puddle?That would do it too.See if components turn freely and go from there.

Firs check the belt tension, you should have about 1/4 of an inch free play in the belt, that is up and down movement of the belt, also check the fluid level.
Is there any noises from the powersteering pump, like a bubbling noise or a whirring noise?

I have a 1995 dakota sport v-6 that keeps cutting about then first quarter inch off of the serpintine belti replaced the idler assembly and pully but it still eats beltsit looks like the belt is slipping...


There is something out of alignment. look at all the pullies with belt on and engine running. use a strong flashlight to see. they all should be in alignment. if any of them are out even a little replace them. including altenator, power steering pump, a/c

its poss ur belt tensior is going bad or u have a bearing going bad take off belt and turn eash pully to see if u hear the noise ur hearing try that

if you have climate control the a/c comp. comes on
intermitently if the clutch is going bad thats a suspect also the idler pully bearing could be tired
or the ps pump could be binding.
one way to narrow the field is the next you shut it off
after driving a short time see if any of the is noticably
hotter than the others thats a place to start.

What you are hearing is the power steering belt slipping Screeching noise? Retighten all the front belts They will have "settled in" a bit after being refitted after cam job

It very well could be the pawer steering pump. But to isolate the squeking sound, take that can of wd-40 and find the idler pully and tensior pully. Spray the bearing area of both pulleys. If your bearing in those pulleys are going bad then it will make that noise. If the wd-40 quits the noise at one of those tow pulleys then you know which one to replace. If its does not, then start looking to replace the powersteering pump. I take it you have checked the power steering fluid levels and they are ok?? Also, you stated that the noise started after you bought the alternator, then try a new alternator. It might of just been a faulty alternator. Happens all the time. One last inexpensive tip is replacing all belts with new. Belts get glazed over and dirty and cause noise too. One last question. Did you make sure the belts were tight enough? Just a little variance in the belt tension can make the difference.

Could be several things. WHICH ENGINE?.. 4 cylinder (has three belts, power steering/water pump, alternator & A/C compressor, one tensioner pully A/C compressor), The V6 2.7 (has only one belt, 1 Idler pully and 1 tensioner pully), the V6 3.5 has two belts - A/C/alternator, and power steering - there are two tensioner pullys). Noises can be caused by the belt(s) themselves, pullys, bearings, pully bearings, water pump shaft bearings (or belts/pullys rubbing up against something). Let's not forget that there is also belt(s) behind the Timing Belt cover as well as pullys and bearings associated with the timing system. You could start by removing one accy drive belt at a time (alternator, water pump, compressor, power steering, etc) to see whether or not the noise goes away in each case. If after each case, you discover the noise is still there, it's probably behind the timing belt cover (idler/tensioner pully, water pump shaft bearing, crankshaft bearing, etc.). Good Luck
