Question about 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt. My Power Steering will go out when I am driving and the indicator will come on. If I turn the car off and turn it right back on, the power steering works again. However, the past week it tends to go off more frequently. Even when I turn the car off and back on, the power steering goes out again a few minutes later. This happened last summer too when it got above 80 degrees. Then it stopped happening for months because it wasn't as hot. It is now winter and has started happening again, so now I don't think it has anything to do with the temperature.
It sounds like the power steering motor is overheating pre maturely. Changing the motor should take care of the problem. What really happens is the motor reports to the power steering module that it is over heating and the module is shutting power to the motor down, the motor is actually no overheating.
