Question about 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada

1 Answer

I just bought a 02 Bravada yesterday and on the way home as I went in the snow the back wheels slipped and the front did not kick in, it also lit the service awd light. Was wondering what would be your guess of the problem?

02 explorer would like to swap differentials my truck is 02 v6 4x4 3.55 open diff donor truck is 02 explorer v8 4x4 with 3.73 limited slip will this swap work without problems

It's not going to cause "problems" per say, but it will change the gearing ration between the engine and the wheels. A higher number will give you more low end pulling power (better acceleration), and lower top speed, and, theoretically, less fuel mileage. Limited slip prevents one wheel from turning faster than the other (e.g. - spinning in mud or snow), causing the vehicle to lose traction and turn to one side.

AWD light is on 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada. before it came on it would pop or clunk when backing up while wheel were turned.

Check driveline for loose or worn u-joints drive shaft slip joints and cv joints at the front axle.

When does the awd kick in on a 1999 bravada the back tires spin on wet pavement but notung from the front

They shoul kick in when you have slip. If they do not then you may be having a malfunction in the system.

My bravada has smartrac and it acts like it is in 4wd every tie i turn the stearing wheel

Basicly olny two wheels are driven at any one time on this system . One in the front and one in the rear its a limited slip system so the wheel that is slipping and spinning faster cuts out and the wheel that is getting traction will kick in bolth front and rear cairrirs idealy . If you could give some more detail about the problem and be specific and give me engine size witch should be a 4.3 Vortec and the ID of the transmission witch should be a 4L60-E im sure i could help you Thank you

I have a 98 grand marquis and the traction control kicks in a 35mph and its like it doesn't get any more power. Does anyone know what could cause this?

Traction Control kicking in would mean that one or more wheels were slipping (as in ice and snow).
Usually, traction control won't get you any more 'power' but will just prevent a slipping tire/wheel from slipping too much by applying brakes to the tire/wheel in question.

Good luck on this.

Stuck in 4wheel drive??? help :)

when driving in 4wd engagement there is a problem in that the torque in the axles and drive lines is not dissipated on hard surfaces as the wheels cannot slip ( great for snow ice mud gravel and the like but a no-no on hard non slip surfaces
yes reversing it will relieve it but if on hard surface ,winds it up again in reverse
better to simply drive two wheels onto the grass verge of the hard surface and then kick it into 2wd
if the diffs are limited slip diffs then the antislip action in the diffs will be pressed very hard together and will produce problems on turning corners
you may have success if you get all 4 wheels of the ground on a hoist and let the wheels spin and then try to engage 2wd
