Question about 2000 Subaru Forester

2000 forester overheating while idling or driving slow and heater cold,when going faster heater kicks on and temp drops. had pressure tested and passed. is it the thermastat?

Flush your heater system probably clogged with dirt the coolant shld be circulating continously going to the thermostat in which the heat is responsible for opening the thermostat to allow coolant circulation

00' intrigue is over heating with ac on and parked. Any idieas why?


My only guess is either the temperature pressure switch is malfunctioning, or you have a leaking intake manifold. I would do a coolant pressure test on the radiator, put a/c on full blast while driving, or turn a/c completely off while driving. BUT, drive a good distance, when doing both. Release pressure before driving. As soon as you get back, do another immediate pressure test, then check your heater hoses under dash behind motor for leaks. This will put severe strain on the heating and cooling system as well as the a/c accumulator and condensor lines. Hope this helps

You need to pull the pressure sensor and install a manual test gage, (borrow from Autozone or other chain part store) that is the only way to verify the engine is not loosing oil pressure.

1998 subaru forester overheating heater blows cold air


Any chance of a head gasket leak? Is the coolant level still full? These were known for head gasket issues. Coolant is a closed system and level will not drop unless there is a leak. Make sure there is no air in the system. Replace the radiator cap to make sure that it is operating properly.

Oil pressure drops with reduced rpm,after about 10 min of driving


OIl will get thinner as it warms up and since the oil pump speed is directly affected by the engine RPM's, a drop in pressure after the car reaches operating temp is normal. The question is what are the pressure readings "cold" and "hot" and are they within acceptable specs.

At idle the oil pump is not spinning that fast. When your cruising down the highway, the engine is turning a lot faster and therefore the pump is spinning faster. The faster the pump spins, the more pressure it will make to a point.

Since pressure and flow can be affected by the "weight" of the oil and the operating temperature of the engine, It's hard to make a diagnosis on the internet. You should take it to a repair facility that you trust and have them hook up a mecahnical oil pressure gauge and monitor the pressures cold and hot at idle and crusing RPM's. Then compare the readings with what Jeep says is acceptable.

Low oil pressures can be an indication of among other things worn bearings.

Heater not putting out heat


Sounds like you may have a head gasket going. Is it running low on coolant? Or did it? Make sure it is topped off and the heater core is full. Let it run and see if it over heats and you have lost fluid. If so I would have a pressure test done on the motor to see if the cylinders bleed down. I hope it is something like the heater core not being full. I wish you luck.

2000 Elantra Overheating


First when vehicle is cold like in the morning check and make sure that the vehicle has enough coolant/ antifreeze in radiator and reservoir. If coolant is need use a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze. You will need some time to do this let car run at idle until the temp guage is in the middle NOT+ normal operating temperature. At this point if the thermostat should be in the open position. Let vehicle run and check to make sure that radiator fan comes on. This should come on when guage is about midway/half way. If temperature rises above half going to h/hot and fan doesn't come on, you either have a BAD FAN BAD FAN SWITCH BAD FAN RELAY OR BLOWN FAN SWITCH FUSE. You will need to check all of the following I will help if its needed. If fan comes on and doesn't go off and vehicle continues to get hot even with fan running. Feel radiator hoses and see if the lower radiator hose is cool/cold. If it is you have thermostat that stuck closed. Replace thermostat and fix problem. If all the above is good and vehicle continues to over heat. THE BAD NEW IS THAT YOU MAY HAVE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET /CRACKED HEAD /BROKEN WATER JACKET. Basically you will need a HEAD JOB at least a head gasket. ONe tell tail sign of this is oil looking like milkshake/chocolate milk-a creamish while residue in oil or antifreeze.
