Question about 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

My 2001 Chevy Cavalier lost power to the rear defrost about a year ago. Kind of annoying, but whatever...never looked into the issue. In the last few weeks, heat in the front of the car would work at full power, then dip to nothing, then back to full power. As of today, it is not working period. It's February and we're in Alaska, so this is not a good situation *AT ALL*. Before we spend hours and hundreds at the garage, any suggestions??

"In the last few weeks, heat in the front of the car would work at full power, then dip to nothing, then back to full power."

do you mean that it is warm then is not warm or do you mean that the blower works then does not?

I would consider replacing the blower motor, not sure about how much you'll spend on one in Alaska. should be fairly accessible from either the passenger side dash from the bottom or from under the hood on passenger side (well on all the vehicles I have replaced one on.) sounds like it's either that or the switch.

Why rear windows on 2001 chevy tracker won't work ?

Would seem your into the inner doors & have a partial
grasp on things

Now you fix all door windows one shot

#1 Test all switches, ohm meter unplugged or volt meter with power
#2 Test all motors with battery voltage direct -- DC motor will run either direction-- can't hook up wrong
#3 Window Regulators -you know about them (Unless they are broken-you said they are tight)
#4 Do you have good ground side wiring & battery voltage at all
switches & motors
#5 Last resort--unhook the cables & work on freeing up the
glass & window guides etc then you will have found out if the
regulators are the issue

Ok I might sound dumb asking this but here goes. My daughter has a 2001 Chevy Cavalier. She called me today from work because she smellled a burning smell coming from her car. I went over there and...

OK here goes...... YOu need the year, make, model, and engine of the car. Howver, I fear that there is more going on than just the belt, form what you describe. I am kinda thinking that maybe the a/c clutch may have froze up, or if the belt is a grooved belt, the tesioner or idler pulley may have siezed up. These 2 conditions would definately make the belt "burn" and snap. I would take the car to a mechanic that you trust and have them look it over just to make sure.....

Surprisingly, your owners manual is one of the best sources for information on headlight replacement and taillight replacement. I learned this a few years ago myself, it's the only repair instruction they put in a automobile owners manual.
