Question about 2000 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

My temperature light went on for the first time since I have had my car. Usually my boyfriend takes care of the maintenance but we are no longer together and I can't remember the last time he put antifreeze in it. I know where the antifreeze goes but not sure if you also put it in the radiator. Am I right or wrong with the radiator?

Hi, You should have a coolant overflow tank/bottle located under the hood and should have a mark indicating "Low" and "Full" on the side of the tank, and also read "Coolant only" on the cap. This is the first area that you should check. If your coolant level light goes on, you are exceeding the normal operating temp for the engine. This is not good. The next thing you can do is add coolant to the radiator, BUT THIS MUST BE DONE WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD....REAL COLD! The cooloing system on a vehicle is pressurized when warm or hot and can cause severe burns and injury if the cap is removed when these conditions exsist. If you find that the coolant system is full and the light still comes on, further investigation will be required to the cause and may not be something you would want to tackle, therefor a repair shop will need to elvauate this problem.

When you open the hood it should be located on the right side, front of vehicle. It will have a shiney cap with a hex shape (unless someone replaced it with a round shape). You can also check the owners manual for this location.

Is it getting ready for a routine maintenance service? Most such problems are cured or avoided by maintenance and it isn't wise to try and cure problems in isolation unless the maintenance schedule is up to date.

A few possibilities are low cranking speed, insufficient reserve battery voltage, poor spark, worn spark plugs, poor injector spray patterns, fuel pressure low, temperature sensors inaccurate...

I have a 2010 exolorer. The throttle sensor has been replaced 3 times in 9 months. Wrench and engine light always come on. It has been replaced at Ford dealerships. Am I just unlucky???

Usually the wrench light is a light stating that you need your oil changed or your tires rotated, basic maintenance work on your car. To clear that light turn your car to the on position but not running. Push the gas and brake pedal at the same time and hold them. Wait until the wrench light goes away and then you can release the pedals. As for the throttle sensor the only advice I can give you is that to find out if it is a recall and if it is then take is to a certified Ford dealer and they will take care of your problem. I Hope this helps

Got 02 Taurus and transmission light on but it changing no problem

the transmission light in some vehicles may also serve as a maintenance reminder to let you know it is time to check or change your transmission fluid, or to take your vehicle to the dealer for regular maintenance. A problem with a transmission temperature sender may be the culprit if the light comes on or flashes only before the vehicle has warmed up to operating temperature. A light that flickers or comes on only when hitting bumps on the roadway may indicate a loose transmission wiring connection or a bare wire. Good-Day!

Temperature gauge

Temperature gauges will not work properly unless there is water in the radiator. For the light to come and the length of time it takes to work I would be checking the coolant level at the radiator cap first then checking the operation of the temperature sender unit.

My car over heated the other night while my boyfriend was driving. Now my car wont start. Why?! More in the details.

Check all wires around the cylinder head. one may have burned or melted. also probablly a good idea to get a compression leakdown test done on the cylinders. Smoke and knocking usually ends up in cylinder damage.

2005 Pontiac Gran Prix 140000 miles. The engine icon on the face plate of the speedometer at the lower right came on, (Not the Check Engine light),. What would cause this icon to come on? I had it reset...

this one? That is the check engine light.

Sounds like you may have a code for insufficient engine operating tempurature. This is usually caused by a bad thermostat. Its pretty common to see this problem on newer GM vehicles. A new thermostat will take care of it 99% of the time.

To find the thermostat follow the upper hose to the engine. The thermostat will be behind the metal housing that the hose attaches to on the engine.

03 suzuki aerio automatic transmition won t shift into overdrive

You have two temperature lights that come on when you start the car, one red and one blue. After the car is started the red light goes out and the blue one stays on. According to the manual, (and from my personal experience with my '03 SX), the car needs to warm up to a proper operational temperature. This temperature is reached once the blue temperature light turns off, (or within seconds afterwards). If you don't allow your car to warm up you will notice hard or long shifting, rough idle, and poor engine performance. Never drive your car if the light displays a constant red temperature light.
If this solution does not work see a Transmission expert of take it to your local Suzuki Dealer.
