Question about 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

1 Answer

96 monte carlo has power when you turn key on but when you tourn it all the way to start there is nothing. Changed neutral safety switch and key switch, checked all fuses, but still nothing. I can turn the key on and jump it across the starter and it will start for about 5 seconds and then shuts off, Security system.

When you changed the key switch, did you program the key to the car? do you see a lock and key on the dash board?

Neutral safety switch in a 1999 monte carlo

Nope. The neutral switch has 2 functions. It prevents the engine from starting in any other gear but park and neutral. It also switches on the back up lights when in reverse. You have electrical problems located elsewhere.

New starter on my monte carlo it still won't crank

Chances are that its a battery cable or connection. I would clean all of these very good and test that you have voltage at the starter.
If all checks out you will need to use a test light on the solenoid or start wire(small wire on starter). Wire the test light grounded touch the small wire while having someone turn the ignition to the start position, you should get a light. If you don't then chances are its the ignition switch located on the opposite side of the keys. It's an electrical switch which operates the starter and Accy and other.
The one other possible problem could be a neutral safety switch, try putting the car in neutral and try starting. If you get it to start you need a neutral safety switch.

96 ford explorer wont start. all power when turn key. nothing.

if it turns over from below, then its in the ignition switch and this also feeds power to the e.c.m. to make the engine fire so you either have a bad switch contact or the hot 12 volt wire to the ignition switch

Won't start getting nothing when i turn key

Recheck all your connections, battery. starter, look for fuseable link on small wire going to starter. Might want to chk.that wire with test light when key switch is in start position and see if it lights. If it does not light might be starter switch under dash on steering colume.
