Question about Jeep Wrangler

2 Answers

It's a 2004 Jeep Wrangler. For a few days now I had problems that the car would not start easily. I bought a new battery last year, so that is not the problem. This morning it started and I drove around, then at lunch I parked the car and afterwards it's not doing anything anymore. Won't start. Any ideas?

Check fuel pressure. If its not starting now spray some brake cleaner or quick start. If it starts then you have a fuel issue. If it still does not start you may have a ignition issue which will require a diagnostic scanner to determine the exact cause.

Have to be clearer on what a car does when it doesnt start. . My first responce was based on thinking the car would turn over and not start.

When you say it did nothing you changed the meaning to mean maybe it did not crank over at all like a dead battery.

You need to test the battery with a meter. 12v or more is good, key on it should drop a couple points like from 12.4 to 12.2 ......

Then this is the test for the battery.

With the meter hooked up look at the voltage. Then crank the engine. It should not go below 11v.

If it goes below 9.6 then the battery is bad. Make sure your testing on the battery and not on the battery terminals.

If the battery passes then test touching the terminals. If the voltage decreases alot then the battery terminals are dirty.

Also make sure all your engine and body grounds are hooked up just in case someone inadvertently left them unhooked in the past.

You have not provided any useful information here except that it won't start, so here are questions I need answered to make any useful attempt to help u with this problem,
No start, what does this mean, does the engine spin over with the starter but not fire up? when it does spin over does it spin normal speed or does the starter sound slow to spin the engine?
and last even if the battery was replaced this really means nothing, I have replaced many batteries under warranty at work and in my own cars and trucks that were less than 1 year old, it is even more of a problem if the battery is an off brand from a discount auto parts store like Kragen or Autozone, the point is don't ever rule out the battery, have it load tested if the engine cranks slow, also have the starter load tested for excessive current draw.

I drove my 2004 jeep wrangler all day friday, went to put it in the garage and it will not start.. the battery is fine, so is the starter and the cylinoid, made sure its in park and nothing, any ideas

Is it making any sound at all when you turn the key? Does the odometer show numbers? Is there otherwise any evidence othere being power to the Jeep? How corroded are your battery terminals? They may not be getting a good connection to the battery posts.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee battery will drain

Ditto here on a 2005 jeep. We bought it new and found the battery dead on a few mornings the first year. Nothing left on. Did the new alternator thing about 2 yrs. ago and a few batteries along the way. This is what we noticed..... If you leave a CD in the CD player, that is the prime little devil that sucks out the juice. Now, we never turn off the car while a CD is in the dash. Now, maybe not necessary every time, but always overnight and now by habit, all the time, we make sure there is no CD inserted when the car is off. Hope this helps.

Starting/Alternator Gauge problems

It maybe as simple as corroded battery terminals. Somtimes they corrode between the post and the terminal itself. When you run light loads there is enough current passing through. When you crank the engine however, the large current flow will not pass. When you jump the car the clamps are biting on the outside of the terminal and current flows easy. Simply clean or replace the terminals and clean the posts as well to a silver shine and the trouble may go away
