I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am and for the past 3 months it revs high when being started then down also for 2 weeks the Trac off light comes on car tries to die but when more fuel is given it picks up

You may have an idle air control motor issue ( IAC).This motor controls the idle on start up as well as normal driving conditions. Is the check engine light on. If it is it may give a hint as to what the problem is.The traction control light has no control as far as the idle is concerned,. It is controlled by the ABS system. Usually the ABS light will come on if there is a traction control issue.

How can I be sure if my PCM is bad???

I would try disconnecting battery again. Disconnect both cables and touch them together for a few seconds. This will reset all modules. Wierd that you had so many codes after just disconnecting battery. Sometimes very hard to tell if ecm is bad.

How do I disable the traction control system

wow, no year, stated! that is amazing....
ok the operators guide answers this, lost that in the glove box.
i can see you have no idea how these systems work.
Track control uses ABS.
ABS uses brakes. so.... brakes are first.
so you didnt scan the PCM first. ?? no DTC errors?????

a 2000-06 verona is a daewoo magnus. (in snake skins)
what suz, did to that car, is the wonder of the world, really.

why not defeat ABS last. see if that stops the front lockup.
the RF wheel only locks in motion.'?
you cant get it to stay locked, parked??????
IF Yes, crack the brake line, let it leak fluid,
does wheel unlock now.
yes, no?
yes, then the problem is up stream
no, the brakes are bad, new caliper time. piston sticking.

the fsm shows how to defeat both, get one.
or try here. for 4 bucks.

id be all over that caliper , then do the line checks.
no need to blame ABS or Tract control.

2001 Monte carlo tract control light is always on and so is abs light always on...brakes are good rotors are good. is there a reset button?

The ABS light has nothing to do with the condition of the brakes. The ABS is is own system that relies on the braking system in order to function. If the ABS light is on there there is a fault in the ABS system. This will also turn off the traction control since the traction control uses the ABS system.

The best start is to have the ABS system scanned for trouble codes. This will give you a clear direction in which to start finding a solution. This will need to be done with either an ABS specific scan tool or a high end multi-function scan tool. You can also try your local auto parts store to see if they can do this for you.

Once you know what the codes are than you can start figuring out what to do to fix it.

Some common failures on these are bad wheel/hub bearings, bad speed sensors, broken speed sensor wiring harnes.

Post the codes and I'll be happy to help you further.

Engine light and ABS traction control light remain

The ABS sensor is a speed sensor also for Traction Control. This is why both lights are on , One of your front ABS sensors are bad or disconnected, or has a pinched wire.

03 alero abs, check eng. &tract light on .why? and how do you turn offf?

this might sound crazy to you but replace the bulbs in the third brake light in rear window and that will take care of abs and traction light in most cases....the check engine light may be related also but not likely....you can take it to your local parts store for a free scan and find out what codes are setting and go from there...replace bulbs first though...good luck!!

DSC and ABS Not avail lights come on after driving.

There is a switch underneath that goes out due to the debris underneath. Either take it to the shop or deal with the lights comming on.

Service lights come on when I step on the gas.

These lights are indicating that a fault(s) exists in the systems that u have indicator lights for, they are warning lights, there are 100's of reasons (an eng miss is just one) for the check engine light to be on, and dozens for the traction control and ABS lights. U need to have the dealer or other shop test the systems for the system trouble codes that are stored in the memory of the control modules whenever these light come on, until the system is tested for these codes it would all be guess work and possible wasted money on parts that are not defective, have the test run and post the codes back on fixya

ABS light handbrake light allways on

check to see of you can get any faults from abs control module, if abs control module can not be scanned, check fuses, if fuses ok, it will need an abs control module.

Eldorado problem check eng, abs, trac cntrl lights on and idle goes from 700-2000 and back

look for any wires touching under the hood. possibly change throttle control. check the abs plugs one at each wheel . check engine light is most likely on due to the transmission issue
