Question about 1999 Dodge Durango
Bottom rear of the engine at the transmission bell housing.

You will have to get under neath the vechicle, i believe the starter is on the passenger side, wright below the exhaust manifold, i havent worked on one of these in a while, could be on the other side, i know it is in that area, below the exhaust manifold, been to long.

it would be best if you took it to a dealer and left a mechanic take it home over night,that way he can have the Chrysler drb hooked up when the problem presents its self.

These transmissions are known for having problems unfortunately.If it drives in first gear thei it sounds like a broke spring in the valve body. If you are not familiar with trans repair this can be a task as there are lots of parts in the valve body.Also could be a bad solenoid on the valve body they have fine screens and get clogged real easy. On these transmissions it is best to change fluid as often as possible as they are tempermental!

I would say check the fluid level, perhaps the the trans fluid is slinging all the way to one side and is starving the transmission for adequate fluid.

I had the same problem, i had a new alternator and battery but it still drained it overnight. I removed the light under the hood and its been fine since
