My 1995 chevrolet 2500 van, 350v8 engine went click when I tried to start it in the cold. 1. I tightened the battery cables and it started. 2. 2nd time I jumped it and it started. 3. I repeatedly clicked it and it started. 4. I turn the engine with the fan belt, it started 5. I would not start, I left it sit in the cold 5 days and it started. It is blue in color as am I. Both from the cold and depression. I do not have any money to go to a mechanic, as I am out of work.

Probably the starter. Have a person with a small hammer tap on the starter next time it does not start

Testimonial: "I kinda thought it was a flat spot on the starter also, only when it started after sitting I was confused. Thans for the reply."

1995 chevy silverado will not start when it is below 40 degrees

This could be alot of things. You could have a weak battery and the cells are freezing up when cold. You could have a coil problem. Do you have spark and fuel? You may have a plugged fuel filter, water in your gas, bad module, poor grounds. It could be a lot of things. A loose cable will cause this also. Do you have a service engine soon light when it runs in warm weather?

Hi ohionow08,

No doubt a cold weather snap can kill a battery faster than anything! I see your battery voltage is 13.68 volts, but is that under a load or is that static voltage? If this only started after you disconnected the negative cable, I would suggest first that you remove that cable again from the battery, remove the 5mm bolt from the cable and insulation completely and check for corrosion inside the insulation and on the bolt itself. If you find corrosion, clean everything well with a wire brush. It may help to make a solution of baking soda and water in a spray bottle and use it to help break up and corrosion deposits. Reinstall everything and check the other end of the ground to make sure there is no corrosion there.

If these things check out ok and then you may want to consider having the battery load tested. Most auto parts stores will offer this service for free as a tool to get customers into their stores.

You said you tightened the battery cables, did you check the other end of the negative where it bolts to the engine. When you tightened the cables you also used a battery brush and cleaned the posts and ends?

Engine start problems

the problem could be the starter, battery, battery cables, or alternator. the clicking could most likely be the starter going bad if not bad already or the battery weak or bad battery cables, if you have good power to everything else radio headlamps and heater the i would start by replacing starterlet me know what you find.

Van will not start cold w/ delayed check eng light

you need a pcm heat it with a hair dryer its located above the engine in on the fire wall in the middle its a black box with vents and wires heat it up and it will start common prob hard to get less than 250 its 95 only the symtoms are cold days turn key get all dash iliminations exeptt check engine light eventually you her the to relays mounted next to your battery start clicking and if you watch your dash the check engine light will eventually flicker and stay on and it will start if you start it with the relays clicking it will sputter because the relay clicking is for your fuel pump and auto shut down relays let me know how it works out chaner101@yahoo.com
