Question about 2005 GMC Yukon

1 Answer

Slite stutter between 40 and 50mph not related to ignition seems to be coming from the transmission... there are no recalls for this vehicle related to this problem and it has no history of this prior to now.

My Sonoma will just stop running while I am driving it. Doesn't seem to be related if it is going up a hill, going fast or slow. If I turn the ignition off and then turn it back on it starts right up,

contact your GM dealer as there is a recall out on all GM products that covers the past 12 years for a problem ignition switch
it doesn't matter if it is new or second hand
All GM vehicle cars now being made have no hole in the key for a key ring as a result of the recall

What could cause the car to stutter when under load going up hill.

It sounds to me like a passing gear issue. Or even and Over Drive issue. Try this to find out. When you put the car in gear, instead of O/D, try regular drive. If you have a push button O/D then deactivate it. If you only have Drive, then try shifting into 3. Run the car up to the same speeds you were having problems with. If you don't have the issues with the higher RPM's then it is an Overdrive/Highway gear issue. If it still stutters, then it could be a fuel delivery issue. Good luck.

Was there a recall on 2008 pontiac g6 for transmission problems

Yes there was. Here is the exact recall and claim number. Also is a phone number you can call for further assistance.

2008 Pontiac G6 Power Train Recall 12V460000 NHTSA: Action Number: N/A Service Bulletin Number: 12V460000
  • Report Date:
    Sep 18, 2012
  • Component:
    Power Train
  • Potential Units Affected:
    426240
  • Manufacturer:
    General Motors Llc

Summary: General motors (gm) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 saturn aura and model year 2008-2010 chevrolet malibu and pontiac g6 vehicles, equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission. On these vehicles, the tabs on the transmission shift cable end may fracture and separate.

Consequence: If the tabs were to fracture and separate, the shift lever and the actual position of the transmission gear may not match. The driver would be able to move the shifter to 'park' and remove the ignition key, but the transmission gear may not be in 'park. ' the vehicle may not be able to be restarted and the vehicle could roll away after the driver has exited the vehicle, resulting in a possible crash without prior warning.

Remedy: Gm will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer over the cable end or replace the shift cable as necessary. This service will be performed free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on, or about, november 12, 2012. Owners may contact general motors at 1-800-521-7300.

Notes: General motors safety recall number 12106. Customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153);

Between 3000 and 4000 RPM engine stutters

Hello
The Engine and Automatic Transmission (not applicable to manual transmissions) in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. Also always check fuel pressure for correct spec for your make and engine type.

My 1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette stutters while driving. At first it seemed like water in the tank or garbage in the line. Tried "Heat", was fine for a week (did not fill the tank) then it started...

You have a blinking battery light
and a condition when pedal is pressed
to the floor

Diagnose those 2 issues first & maybe you
will resolve the stutter problem
Most likely ignition issue

Try a different mechanic

The fact you tell use what your experiencing,
is proof that your mechanic isn't working
on the issues you have.

Was the ignition switch ever recalled on the 2009 chevy cobolt

No,
Recalls for
  1. STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM. GENERAL MOTORS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 CHEVROLET COBALT AND MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 PONTIAC G5 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER MAY EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST THAT COULD OCCUR AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING.
  2. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT. GENERAL MOTORS IS RECALLING 276,729 MY 2009 BUICK ENCLAVE, CHEVROLET COBALT, HHR, MALIBU, TRAVERSE, GMC ACADIA, PONTIAC G5, G6 AND SATURN AURA AND OUTLOOK PASSENGER VEHICLES. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLES SAFETY STANDARD 102, "TRANSMISSION SHIFT POSITION SEQUENCE, STARTER INTERLOCK, AND TRANSMISSION BRAKING EFFECT", AND FMVSS 114, "THEFT PROTECTION AND ROLLAWAY PREVENTION". ON SOME OF THESE VEHICLES, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT CLIP MAY NOT BE FULLY ENGAGED. IF THE CLIP IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED, THE SHIFT LEVER AND THE ACTUAL POSITION OF THE TRANSMISSION GEAR MAY NOT MATCH. WITH THIS CONDITION, THE DRIVE COULD MOVE THE SHIFTER TO "PARK" AND REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY, BUT THE TRANSMISSION GEAR MAY NOT BE IN "PARK".
If you are having a problem with your ignition switch, repost question with full details.

I have a 2010 chevy HHR, I cannot cut the ignition off and take the key out, it runs till I undo the battery, How can I fix this, it seems to be a problem with these cars, but no recall.

I had this problem and it was related to the transmission cut out switch. My elegant solution was to beat the transmission shifter with my hand until it unlocked. Has happened more than once!

Seems as if the gears are slipping and sometimes it will "stutter" when i press the gas. it's an automatic '02 cougar. should i change the transmission filter? Is the filter just inside the pan?

I also have the same car and same problem. I did find that you cannot drop the transmission pan. It is all one unit.
Mercury recall on 2002 was a sock filter in fuel system. Said mine was not one of them, but all signs are the same.
It has been recommended to have the flush done on transmisson.

The key won't release from ignition. The transmission is in "Park".

the vehicle is possibly in an over-steer condition, if so, bouncing the steering wheel in the direction of the turn while attempting to turn the key , may release the bind. It is also possible you need to replace the lock cylinder if this trick does not work
