The problem is that while the gasket is likely bad, the head(s) may also be warped from overheating conditions. Even worse may be a crack in the cylinder or cylinder head that won't appear until the engine is torn down. Repair costs are likely to run up to several thousand dollars--enough that one might consider buying a replacement engine from a wrecking yard which are usually guaranteed for a short period against serious defects. This is probably not what you wanted to hear!

Sounds like you have blown head gasket, or cracked head, did the motor run hot, if so, you can try head gasket, maybe you will get lucky, also i would replace intake gaskets, parts should be anywhere from 50.00 to 200.00 dollars, depends were you get them, need to clean out cyclinder with antifreeze in it, and check other ones too, pull plugs out get somebody to turn motor over watch for antifreeze coming out of spark plug holes, maybe you can put head gasket on and keep on riding...

Hey Baptized,
You need to replace ALL the gaskets that seal coolant from ANYTHING... You may have a cracked head, cracked intake manifold,, or at worse a cracked block - between the coolant passages and the combustion chamber area...If you have a aluminum intake and cast iron heads.. this is a potential leak creator when the engine gets hot and cold quickly...make sure ALL the gasket surfaces are CLEAN.. and use:

DO NOT use silicone sealant - period!

Have availiable a 98 villager with water in the oil suspect water pump falure / overheat and warped head blown head gasket engine runs smooth labor to replace head gasket waterpump and true heads cost...

$1000 plus the costs to do head gaskets, bearings (remember, antifreeze in the lubrication system means cam and crank bearings), you are talking about a rebuild, since it's out and apart you may as well do the rings too (150,000)...align boring, deck the block, heads...with the misc. items you will end up doing, you might be better off looking for a low mileage junkyard engine instead of going through that one.

Antifreeze in oil

That means your head gasket is bad and will need to be changed. depending on if it's a 4 cylinder or 6. The cost can range from about 700-1300$ depending on how much damage is done. Do not run the vehicle anymore.

What could be causing oil to leak into my antifreeze?

You either have a cracked cylinder head or a leaking cylinder head gasket.

Hi. my problem with my 1998 lumina with 168km on it is,ikeep putting antifreeze in maybe one gallon every couple of days, and just a couple of hours a day, around town.the problem is i don't understand...

If your using coolant on this model in the amount you stated, it sounds ( and that car is famous for it) like you have a bad head gasket letting the coolant into one of the cylinders. Some times you can tell if the exhaust has a sweet smell to it. A leaking heater core can fool you also as the carpet will **** it up. You would know if the windows fog up that the heater is culprit .

Does head gasket make car over heat and does the blown headgasket seal will fix problem

head gasket problems can cause leakage of antifreeze into the exhaust through the cylinders and low antifreeze levels can cause an overheat problem due to a leaky head gasket.

A leaky water pump can do the same thing except you'll see a puddle of antifreeze from the o-ring not sealing right.

Blown head gasket seal can help with minor defects in the head gasket seal but not major leaks.

It may be worth the cost to try a head gasket seal solution before replacing the head gasket which is a major procedure.

How much will it cost to replace a intake gasket seal in the shop including labour? and how much does the part cost and how easy would it be to do it yourself?

You must be talking about the 3.1. Very common problem. If you are NOT mechanically inclined, Don't attempt. There are 2 styles of gasket sets. Won't know which 1 you need until you take apart. The standard set costs about 56.00. The upgraded version is 86.00. Also change the thermostat, antifreeze and oil and filter. Dealer will charge about 5 to 600 . Backyard Joe, about 350-400
