You need 3 things.
Compression
Good hot blue spark to all plugs.
Good gasoline and proper fuel pressure. 63-64 lbs.
If you have all 3 then move on to injector pulse to all injectors.
I think each injector is on a separate driver on that one.
Check for pulse to all of them.

You may be weak on fuel pressure . Even a couple of lbs low on a cold start will cause a no start. Double check cold start cranking fuel pressure. If under 63-62 lbs you have problems.one test is to give it a squirt of carb cleaner not starting fluid. If you get a intake or engine full of starting fluid it can blow things. Carb cleaner will start it if it is a fuel problem and lot safer. Also in the good old days when i was a kid, i used to get a couple of cans of starting fluid and get in the back and have a good starting fluid spraying contest. Good for a big blast if someone lights a match. If it starts then you have a fuel pressure problem. Run the full fuel pressure test and post back pressures.

Here is the guide lines on testing.
Hard to start cold.
Check cold start fuel pressure.
Check engine running fuel pressure.
Check engine running on the road fuel pressure.
Then shut it off and watch for fast leak down.
Pinch off at rubber part or block off return line and check full pressure.
V8 gm engines should have 60-66 fuel pressure.
Cold start should be 64-65 lbs of pressure.
If you do not have full fuel pressure on a cold start the injectors will not squirt fuel. Do not leave home without it.
Engine running should be 60-66 lbs pressure depending on engine load.
Full pressure with return pinched off should be 75-85 or more.
And if it has a fast leak down after shut off you have a leak.

The 75-85 is only a check on the capable full pressure of fuel pump.
If you can not find the rubber return line check full pressure by plugging return line or just or the true full pressure can be taken direct at the end fuel filter.
What are the pressure readings that you have done.
What are your cold start pressure readings?

One way to check the fuel pump is to turn the ignition to on and listen for the pump to run. It should run for a few seconds. It may be a couple of seconds after you turn the ignition to on before it runs. Normally you can do this repeated times.

If you don't hear the pump run that is most probably the problem.

You need to attach a pressure gauge to the schrader valve and measure the fuel pressure with the key on and also while running. You need to see about 40 lbs in both cases.

Engine will not start.turns over fine.ran fine

run scanner for trouble codes, some auto parts stores   will do this for free, check fuses, check for fuel at fuel rail, if not check fuel pump relay, you should here it click when key is first turned on, if not try to bend tabs slightly to make good contact, if no click, replace relay if so turn key off then on listen in tank with cap off for whirling sound if tank, if not could be fuel pump, sorry

Left cad nortstr running overnight, out of gas n dead bttry.wont start,no fuel in rail.bad fuel pump? how much?

Put at least 5 gallon of fuel in the tank. Charge the battery full with a battery charger. Turn on the ignition without starting the engine. See if you hear the pump run for a few seconds and then shut off. You may have to listen carefully in the truck to hear it. If you hear the pump it is more than likely ok. Do this about 5 times to prime the pump. Purchase a can of starter fluid and follow the directions on the can to start the engine. You may have to do this time and time again until you get fuel to the fuel rail. I would then replace the fuel filter.

I think you should check your battery and alternator. If they both check good you may have a battery draw, something draining the battery over night.Check your doors make sure they are closing like they should.

Car will not start.

you could have a fuel pump problem, but first check the fuel pump relay. wiring diagram says it is in the thirteen position auxiliary relay panel, but does not say where that is. my guess is under the hood. if that relay is bad fuel pump won't work. after you find it you can listen to it when you turn key to run. if you can't hear it click it is not engaging and so is not switching power to fuel pump. hope that helps

1998 Dodge diesel loses power while driving

Almost sounds like your lift pump. I have the same truck. If it's a 12 valve your fuel pump is probably fine. But like mine, a 24 valve the pump might be dying. And yes, it's $1200. My lift pump, the electric pump died and it failed to start. You should research your chip though. My friend has one and it causes him more problems than he get's out of it. Most of them only last about 5 years and then start to experience malfunctions anyways. I'd just pull it out if I were you. Above all, I'd get a fuel pressure gauge. If you have less than 5 psi, you can kill your mechanical fuel pump fast. It should normally run at 16 psi

Have you checked that you have power to the coil on cranking? You may also want to check wether you have a good strong spark at the spark plug.It could be an ignition module breaking down.If you have no power to the coil you may need to change the ignition relay. Its close to the battery.
