'02 Escape here... replaced all 3 CATs in the last 4 months. Best place I found for them, in price, was with FREE shipping, and you can works with them for a 10% discount on them.... I DID! Actually, I phoned them, cut me 10% right off the top and didn't even ask them to. Firewall side was around $280, Radiator side around $270 & Rear around $150.... that's before the 10%..... no sales tax.... .shipped FREE! Also, got a lift, not nearly so bad.. on the ground.. real pain in the heiney! If yours is a 3.0L, about 4 1/2 hours to change the Firewall side, 2 hours for the Radiator, and the Rear mabye about an hour.... WITH the right tools that is. Hope this helps.

You can do it yourself it will only cost the price of the catalytic converters, first i would disconnect them and visually inspect them if you see that they look like a honey comb with no obstruction of the holes than they are fine but if you see black residue or even some melting of the material than i would replace them. hope this helps you.

How can i tell witch cat is clogged on my 03 escape there are three of them

About the only way you could do it yourself is to cut the cats out one at a time.
You could use an inferred temp scanner and check the exhaust temp in front and behind each one.
If one of them is blocked, the temp will be much hotter in front of the catalytic converter than after.

Your vehicle will still run if the exhaust is off. This does not mean that the catalytic converters are bad or good. If your vehicle was throwing codes before you removed the exhaust there is a good chance they need replaced, or if the exhaust coming out of the tailpipe smells bad they may need replaced as well.

Generally, Catalytic converters will last the life of your car unless they are damaged with something other than normal wear and tear.

I can not get much power to go over inclines very well and there is a PO420 error message in its computer.I've been told it's a catalytic converter problem but there are 3 on the exhaust sytem(2 in front ...

There are ways to determine what you ask

You can not do anything at home

The real issues, are that your converters should
last 12 to 15 years,so you have other issues,
that have been going on for years.

Your lack of power is-clogged or broken down
converter catalyst

What ruins the converter-is a rich condition,which
then causes an over heating issue, which comes
from ignition coil misfires, common on all fords
with COP Coils

There are other things also, that happen

You will need to install ALL New Converters
All New O2 Sensors
Solve ALL other engine emisson related issues,FIRST

NEVER NEED A DEALER- for anything, ever, local shop

2004 ford escape engine emission light on lunges while idleing

I have found this to be a common problem on 2001-2006 V6 Ford Escapes. In 99% of these cases the problem is the Catalytic Converter. The V6 has three in-total, one per exhaust manifold, and one after the Y connection. This third catalytic converter is the one that always gets clogged. Another clue to it's failure is a loss of power and a increase in fuel consumption. The later 2006-2008 have a redesigned exhaust system. Hope that helps.

Is that possible to unclogg the escape catalytic converter manifold?

no, if it's clogged, your COPS may be bad. Coils on plugs. Or it will do it again. expensive manifolds. Buy used at, page with * is low price.

Buy new at for discount.

Bad COPS can take out engine computer too. Buy used too if needed.

CEL light on or flashing? That's usual scenario with DTC codes.

Cut u cut the catalytic converters off the manifold and just replace the catalytic converter by cutting and welding it back together

You can cut them off and weld them back on. You don't have to buy a new exhaust system if that's what you're referring to. Here the ford dealer wanted $2000 to replace mine, but we had aftermarkets put on at a local shop for $300.

Is it true that ford escape's catalytic converter can only be replace by dealers and cant find aftermarket and how many catalytic converter escape has?

no a dealer is not the only place that replaces these; you can do it yourself and there should be 2 of them. most of them are replaced with aftermarket ones. go to a muffler shop and they will replace them for you and you can check at an Autozone or Napa for the catalytic converters
