Question about 1996 Pontiac Grand Am
I would fix & clean up the wire connections,,,first,,

Measure resistance of the chip in key. Its just a resistor. They made 5 sizes. Mine measured 1868 ohms. Tell radio shack you want that many ohms or very close (small wattage) in any way they can put it together. Find two white wires in orange jacket coming from bottom of steering column. Cut and jump in the resistor pack to the 2 white wires leading away from the steering column. Worked for me!
