Yes, I have read the many different forums, but did not find a way of fixing this unless I had the iDrive, which I don't.

How can I recalibrate this? This is too much of an error.

    Thanks.

My first call was to my dealer on Monday. So far been less than successful. "All German cars do this". The service manger is supposed to get back with me but offered no solution. I told her that the error was not acceptable. I have only had the car for 31 days.

If you have a specific area of the software or correct code that I can use as leverage, I would appreciate that.

    Thank you for your help.

This speedo can be calibrated, but 1st it has to be verified that the error is 5 MPH, this is done with a scanner reading the Vehicle Speed Sensor data stream while the tech drives the car, the scanner reading should match the displayed speed on the speedometer, if it does't then the driven gear in the trans must be changed, one tooth bigger to slow the speedo reading down, if the error is 5 MPH it is excessive, the industry standard is max of +or- 3 MPH variance from true speed, in any event you will need the dealer to verify the exact error u think u have.

there is no specific software code, the speedometer will be pulled and sent out for prices calibration, but remember the dealer has to confirm this error before they will do anything at all, in my 30 years as a dealer technician i have had this complaint of speedometer error written on many repair orders, and very seldom did careful testing prove the complaint valid, this may not be the case here with u and I am not inferring you don't have a valid claim, but testing must be done to prove it, they will not fix it based on your word alone, the manufacturer requires careful testing to confirm the problem really exists ot hey will not pay the warranty claim for the repair.

This is considered an emission related code that is automatically covered under the BMW's warrenty and all manufacturers warranties

This is a law that protects the consumer and the environment for a minimum of 4 years from the new vehicle production date.

Your best bet is taking the car to the dealer.

There is no way to recalibrate without the diagnostic scanner and the software to install.

This is going to be a dealer issue

All german cars do this, or at least Mercedes, BMW, and Audi
In Germany, there is a law holding the car manufacture responsible if the speedometer shows a speed slower than the actual rate of travel. Thus, they all slightly overstate the speed to protect themselves. When you are going 65 MPH on a 65 MPH highway, you can be 100% certain you are going 65 MPH or a touch below. The speedometer not working right why? and the left front seat want move why how do i fix it what is causing it not to move? i can hear a sound when i press the seat switch.

A few possible issues that may cause your speedometer to not work are a bad speed sensor / gear. Could be an internal gear inside the transmission, not as common of a problem.

What type of sound do you hear when trying to move the driver seat ? Is it a clicking or the motor seat motor running ? This can help determine what may be your problem.

My 05 Focus speedometer is wacky. All other gauges and systems work fine. The speedometer needle doesn't go to zero when vehicle stops moving.

Sounds like the speedometer is faulty. If the speed sensor were the problem, the odometer would not work correctly, the transmission would not shift correctly, and the check engine light would be on.

Colorado speedometer reads high according to GPS

Find one of those radar displays that sit on the roadside and tell you how fast you're going. Most likely your GPS is the one that's off, because it has to average and estimate your speed, wheras the vehicle's speedometer should be good from the factory.

Speedometer off

Over the years I have had many complaints of the speedometer being inaccurate, few times has it actually been the case, about 5% I would say. You can have the speeds checked for accuracy by any dealer using a known good vehicle speedometer pace car, done the test dozens of times. Normal speedo accuracy is plus or minus 3 MPH.

Speedometer error?

Many cars have an error on the speed indicated. 10% sounds quite high, next time you buy tyres go for one size bigger or the next profile up, eg, if you are using 70 series go to 75 or 80. That will sort your problem out and you will get better fuel consumption. You can have the speedo calibrated but I would thing that the cost or effort wonuldn't justify the result.

Have you called transmission place? Did they also install it? Ask them if they changed speedometer adapter, and mention the difference in speed.

Speedometer reading fluctuates

IMHO, I think that the broken cable is what is causing the problems. It "confuses" the programing of the CPU or computer.
