Question about 2008 Chevrolet Suburban

1 Answer

I own a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban. Its coming up on 30,000 miles. What service should I get to maintain this vehicle properly. The dealership wants to power flush the transmission, do a rear differential check, front differential check, oil change, cabin air check, and a couple of other things for $590 plus tax on parts. What do you guys think about this. Is it an overkill.

I agree with the transmission fluid change. The differentials don't need anything unless they are leaking. You can do all this at home for less than 100 dollars including the other stuff they recommended.

My odometer is 110,000 that a subaru 2008 outback is that bad,i bought only last week

  • Not to bad. Outback is a good vehicle. With so many miles and it only being a 2008 I am inclined to think this was a highway traveled vehicle more than in town. This is good because highway miles is far better on a vehicle than in town miles. Some maintenance you need to either confirm has been done or inspected to see if it needs to be done. May also have some warranty with it to but warranties often do not cover preventative maintenance.
  1. Transmission flush - 20,000 miles
  2. Transmission Filter - 50,000 miles
  3. Radiator flush. - 30,000 miles
  4. Air filter. - As needed.
  5. Oil change. - 3 months or 3,000 miles - usually right away with new vehicle.
  6. Emissions clean. - 25,000 miles
  7. Brake inspection. Right away with new vehicle.
  8. Serpentine belt - 50,000 miles inspect often.
  9. Alignment check - Check is often free.
  10. Tires.

Speedometer sticking will register 100 mile an hour when stopped

Hello,

This is a common problem with the 03-06 Suburban vehicles. It is repairable though, you don't need to spend a lot at the dealership. Check this page for more on how to get it fixed for less - Suburban speedometer problems

Thanks,

50,000 miles what absolutly has to be serviced

There is a 60,000 mile service for that vehicle. I am assuming you have a 1500. It should have the oil, air filter, transmission filter and gasket & the PCV valve changed. Keep up with maintainence and the vehicle should last you. Regular maintainence to me is the best policy.

My dealer said that my 2008 dodge grand caravan needed an induction service at 31,000 miles and I do not see it on my scheduled maintains plan. Is this a scam?

If it's not in your owner's manual, then it's unneeded. A vehicle with mileage that low shouldn't need much of anything. Remember that dealerships make most of their money selling secondary services like power steering flushes, induction services, injector cleanings, etc. Save your money.

What is the maintainence schedule for the Automatic Transmission in a 2004 Mabibu?

Change your automatic trans fluid every three years,do not go over 30,000 miles

That is for ALL VEHICLES

I used to own a trans shop, and do not care what tv ads say, or the manufacturers or owners manuals

80% fail unnecessarily because of neglect

That goes for power steering also

Use the correct fluid,NO ADDITIVES,NO SEALERS,

I have a 2005 Chevy Equinox but no owners manual. There is a light on the dashboard that comes on that show a picture of a car with what looks like a tool in the center. Can anyone tell me what this...

I believe that would be your "maintenance due" light. Most GM vehicles as of 2005 or so have a program built in to the vehicles computer that will let you know when it is time for your normal service to be performed. It measures this by how many times the vehicle is started, how long it is run for, etc. Sometimes it will come on after 3000 miles, sometimes 5000 miles and sometimes more. GM says that once the light comes on, they recommend you have an oil and filter change and any other necessary work done within 500 miles of the light illuminating. On average the light will come on about every 5000 miles but it can go to 8000 miles. I would suggest no matter what that the oil and filter be changed every 8000 miles at most with regular and not synthetic oil. You can always do the service sooner than that. Transaxles should be serviced at 30,000 miles or less on front and all wheel drive models on the Equinox. Please rate me on this answer.

Is the subaru 2002 impreza difficult to maintain?

No the subarus run a long time especially if you change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles and say every 25,000 to 30,000 change the spark plugs and wires and every 30,000-40,000 change the fuel filter.Basically just do routine maintaining of the vehicle and its not uncommon for them to run 200,000 miles or more.

30,000 mile service

Do you have the owners manual? It will list what the manufacturer recommends at 30k. Better yet, ask the dealer what is included for the $600+. If you post the list to me, I'll give you my opinion on what I recommend to have done, and what I believe isn't necessary. I have driven many cars to very high mileage, and all of these vehicles never went to a dealer for service (new and used). I feel the many service checks are for people that abuse their car, have money to burn, and want to support the dealerships service department. Honda makes a quality vehicle, if you change fluids and filters, you will enjoy it for many miles/years. Hope to hear from you with list.
