Question about 1998 Lexus ES 300

1 Answer

I bought on last December a Lexus ES 300 1998 with a mileage of 47,230 and I used the car more 1,200 miles when the engine presented an inside damage. Before transferring me this car the ex owner has changed the oil and he put 4,7 of SHELL HELIX HX3 K, 25W-60, API SG/CD, multi-grade motor oil with extra protection for engines with more than 62,000 miles with the addition of BARDAHL (B12 PLUS) oil additive. Is it this combination recommended? I suppose that the ex owner has done that in order to occult some problem in engine. I kindly ask you to send me your comments.

These engines are notorious for sludge problems, however that's unusual that an engine with low mileage has an internal problem. the oil itself doesn't matter that much. you should be fine with any brand 5w30 or 10w30. im interested to know what inside damage your talking about.

I doubt very much this has anything to do with the tires or alignment. It sounds like you have misfiring in the engine, possibly because of a faulty sensor. The first thing to do is to check whether you still have a warranty with such low mileage - your dealer may fix it for free! If the warranty has expired, get a readout of the engine trouble code. The fix may be as simple as spraying throttle body cleaner into the Mass Airflow Sensor (careful - there are very fragile fine wires inside), or you may have a loose connection on the oxygen sensor (sometimes it gets bumped during an oil change on this model).

I have a 2004 Lexus Es 330 and the maintenance req light is on it has 51,540 miles

This should be reset when the oil is changed [ you may be due for service ]. to reset make sure the odometer is set on total miles, make sure the key is off, push on the reset button, turn on igntion key keeping your finger on the button- the mileage numbers will be replaced by a groupe of dashes, they will go out from left to right. Once all are out you should hear a chime- it's reset.

Oil light comes on intermitently. Oil & filter last changed 2,500 miles ago. Oil level is full and clean. Where is the oil pressure sensor/switch?

if you change oil every 2,500 miles , maybe is a oil pump failure, if not , then remove engine oil pan and clean oil pump strainer, use good quality oil

Lexus ES 330 2004 At what mileage does the radiator need to be serviced? Also, does it have an internal timing chain that needs to be serviced?

the coolant needs to be serviced @ 60k according to lexus reccomendation. theres a timing belt that needs to be changed @ 90k miles. I usually just change the coolant with the timing belt because you have to take the water pump off anyway and replace the engine coolant.
