Question about 1994 Isuzu Trooper
It is eaither your EGR valve " exhaust gas recycler " valve. very common from the way you have described it, most likely this is the fault. UK price is around £130 but vary from make and model
other possibility is the air mass meter or air mass sensor, these can be cleaned but dont always function after a fault, worth a clean up to find out, get some carb cleaner and spray the sensor being careful not to damage it. let me know if you need help with the location.
Lastly check all the air pipes are in good condition with no leaks, rips, tears etc.
Hope this helps. It will most likely be the EGR, does the car have an engine light on?
