Question about 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage
It could be a few things, head gasket, blocked radiator, dodgy water
pump, thermostat. Start the engine when it's cold & take off the
radiator cap (don't do this when the engine is hot). Did you notice if
the coolant is getting swished around? You're basically checking that
it's getting circulated around the engine. If not then most likely the
thermostat is stuck closed.
This is located inside the housing which connects the top coolant hose to the radiator. Replacing it is handy enough if you're okay with the spanners & the manual is available free to download from the net. You'll find handy tips on how to check if the thermostat is faulty in the troubleshooting section.
