What is the best way to trouble shoot my 99 durango with codes # p0783 & p0740 pending

Other than a complete trans rebuild ?

I would make sure that all engine side Data was right on,
& you have NO engine performance issues AT ALL

You have a Converter lock-up issue

You have a shift valve or solenoid issue & not going
into 4th gear on command

If you want to try cleaning the valve body & throw some
money at a couple of new solenoids, should they be clogged,
you could,I wouldn't pay someone to do that

I was in the trans shop business,so I say no more

If you have 100,000 on it,pull it, AFTER, you TRY & diagnose
any electrical issues

I had a code for the 3-4 **** solenoid we had all gear except overdrive but now that we changed it we only have 2nd gear. what could we have done to cause this?

Are you sure you changed the right solenoid..The shift solenoids look the same..Also make sure you hooked the connectors up properly..

P0753 car want go into ovr drive and has high rpm

This code means theres a problem with the shift soleniod for the 3-4 shift, have this soleniod tested, its locted on the valvebody if the pan was dropped you will see the soleniod.

When i stop it shakes on gear

i would have the transmision looked at, sound like a lock up tourque converter or overdrive shift problem.

Code P1740

i think you answered your own question.. torque converter clutch or overdrive solenoid. also your overdrive band could be a little worn and about ready to **** the bed for good but i'd check the other things. if you had transmission work done on it before when they put the torque converter on maybe it didn't get re-seated properly. push and turn it will click do it 2 more times clicking a total of 3 times

Transmission code PO753, how to repair?

PO753 code on a Durango can also be caused by a bad transmision relay in the relay -fuse block behind the battery in the engine compartment. (relay # 31 on 1999 Durango) Before you attempt to replace the 3-4 solenoid, or take to a transmission shop, try changing the relay out with another known good relay, reset the code and try it. I learned this today from an honest transmission shop. Shifts normally again, check engine light is out, and the shop did not charge me a dime. Kudos to Trans Medic in Gresham OR.
