Hi pete, wise choice I wouldnt drive it eaither!
If you can remove the rocker cover and try the engine you will be able to see if the rocker arm is moving freely, sometimes the arm from the rocker will snap off inside the top half of the head. it could be rattling about in the top end.

It's difficult to say without seeing the car but remove the rocker and go from there.

your most probobly right about the valve, but still check the rocker before removing the head.

Get back to me and let me know what you find, good luck

Regards

Dan

Hi, the most likely cause is going to be that the hydraulic lifters are going to need replacing these are what control the valves from the cam shaft these lifters ware over time making the gap bigger between the valve and the camshaft so then you get this rattle the only way to solve this problem is to replace the lifters.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Likely has a vacuum hose leak. The hoses all die from the massive heat generated by the turbo engines. Check all the ones on the throttle for cracks.

If the noise is just a spinning sound and not a grinding, than you're starter solinoid is probably bad.
You're best bet is to replace the starter. Hope this helps.

If it is a turbo, check the Turbo BypassValve. Also check all vacuum hoses, after 100 Kmiles replace them all.

I need an engine diagram for a 1995 saab 900 se V6

A SAAB dealer should be able to print one out for you. BTW that engine is practically identical to the V6 used in a caddy Catera, and Saturn Ion. Those diagrams would be the same, so you might want to search that also.

Motor and trans mount replacements

The part number for the trans mount is the same for the 2, 2.3 and 2.5 liter engines. It is 4356184. It is $51.00 for the aftermarket Febi/Bilstein and $125.52 for the OEM Saab part. The 2.3 liter mount you want to use will work, but only if it came off an auto trans. car. Additional infor available on SaabSite: http://www.thesaabsite.com/900new/NG900mounts.htm

Check Engine Light!

Sounds like you will need to have the codes read at SAAB dealer to confirm no fautly sensors have caused this to happen.
There may still be a bad component that is triggering lamp.
