Question about Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

I am preparing to sell my 94 Cadillac Deville. Towards the end of last fall, I replaced the power steering unit, belt and one of the small plastic pulleys. The car was making a high pitched whining noise and thought the new pully would fix that. Turns out the condenser and its pulley is jumping around and is the source of the noise. Is it seizing up - how hard is it to change this out?

Yes - sorry.. The compressor. I think that's it - it's the unit with a pulley at the bottom of the car - with the lowest pulley in the belt route. it's shaking and making noise. does it need to be replaced or just serviced? i heard they can seize up sometimes

Are you referring to the A/C compressor? You will definitely want to have it serviced by a qualified shop. Releasing freon into the air improperly is not only harmful to the environment but illegal. The parts are usually what cost the most on this type of job. Especially being that it is a cadillac. If you need further assistance please let me know.
Thank you,
Lee

Sometimes you can just disconnect the power to the compressor. Though if the balance is off or something worse it may need replacement/repair. I would have a qualified mechanic look at it and they could diagnose fairly quickly.
    Thank you,

Why cadillac deville won't start when hot?

Sounds like the module inside the distributor is starting to fail. If the engine turns over at normal speed but won't start then grab a spark checker and put it at the end of a spark plug wire and crank the engine. If if sparks then you have a fuel problem. If no spark then look to the distributor module or possibly the wiring harness inside the distributor. I have seen where the power wire, pink I believe, goes open at the black plastic box connector inside the distributor and can be tested with an ohmmeter. If that is the problem then replace the 2 wiring harnesses that make up the distributor wiring harness because the plastic connector will break apart when trying to remove the terminal and that makes it difficult to put back together. Hope that helps

My 95 cadillac deville power steering just started acting up. Its not the power steering fluid cus i checked and its full. It will work then just go out then work again. Does it need a new pump or what?

I would try a new belt first. If the belt it is old it could be slick and slipping or loose which would cause problems with the steering pump..

I have a 1994 Cadillac DeVille and it has a very loud whining noise which seems to getting louder. I've been told it is the power steering unit and not to worry about it. Don't you think it is advisable...

Yes. I would check the fluid level and belt tightness and perhaps change the belt. Also see if you are losing fluid at the pump or steering box. The noise might be air in the lines or from low hydraulic pressure if you hear it more while turning. If the noise persists have a second opinion or just change the pump to give yourself a margin of safety.

The steering wheel on my deville tightened up on me last night but power steering fluid is good, what is the problem?

You probably need to tighten the belt that runs the power stearing pump,or replace the belt if ther is no adjustment left.

Power steering leak

To try to find the leak, purchase a spray can of engine cleaner and spray the entire area of the pump and hoses. Then wash off with a garden hose. Fill pump reservoir with fluid. Have someone turn the steering wheel while you look in that area of the pump and hoses with a flashlight for the leak. Be careful of rotating fan and belts!

94 Cadillac DeVille: Car would only run for 20

When the car has the crank/no start, at that point see which is missing. Test for fuel and spark. I think it has to do with fuel, a tired fuel pump or relay. But remember to check the oil sending unit. If it fails it will shut down the fuel system.
