When I drive, why is battery light on, all dash lights come on, and truck dies on me?

Most modern alternators unless of the smart-charging type have just two connections and perhaps a thick ground bonding cable if the machine is rubber mounted.

I suggest you check those connections and ensure the thick cable is in good order and providing a good current path to the battery and the other wire (which is the earthy side of the ignition light) is not shorting to ground which would cause the battery light to remain lit. Disconnecting the wire should put the light out.

If this is your type of alternator and all is ok with the wiring the alternator must be faulty.

If there is more connections than just two it is possibly an older machine sensed alternator that can have another one, two or three wires or if there are several additional wires, especially in a separate multiplug, it could be a smart-charging system where the alternator is fairly conventional but there is influence from the engine management via another small ECU which also controls the battery light.
During periods of acceleration the system prevents the alternator from charging to free extra power from the engine. If there is a fault in the smart-charge system disconnecting the additional multiplug will allow the alternator to charge normally until the system can be repaired.

I have a 98 dodge neon just replaced the alternator guy at parts store told me i need to replace the universal fusible link also...where is it located? i cant find it

The main line between the alternator and battery has a fuseable link in the cable to protect the circuit from overload just like a fuse. Some where in the cable is a thick section that comprises the link. Its usually near the battery end of the cable.
If you replaced the alternator and it is not charging the battery, you would check the cable by testing for battery voltage at the alternator post with the key switch off.

What is a rectifier block 2000 gmc sonoma

The belt could be slipping. Is the thick red wire hooked up at the alternator it should run from the alternator to the battery. Check voltage at the stud where the thick wire comes off the alternator if its not reading high 13's or low 14 volts your alternator is bad. I've gotten multiple brand new rebuilt alternators that were bad from the get go.

How do you check the alternator

Get a $5.00 tester in Harbor freight and tools
Scale in DC lower scale but grader than 12 volts
tester have a positive red and negative black cable
black to chassis and red on the thick cable of the alternator
should read greater that 13 volts, if less or equal 12, alternator is bad.
-Or remove and take it to a auto part for test

No power from alternator to battery

Is the battery ignition light coming on when you turn the key on. Wiring for an alternator is quite simple, the 60amp cable (thick wire) is a direct feed to the battery. The thin wire (normally blue) connected to the 'ing' terminal gets a live feed via the battery ignition light. if the bulb has blown or this wire is not connected, the alternator will not charge. If you can, use a 12v 5watt test light connected to the battery, start the engine and touch the 'ing' terminal. this should prove and energies the alternator to start charging.

Alternator wiring harness

An alternator can run on two wires, the thick wire is the supply to charge the battery, direct to positive, via fuse box or starter supply. The thin wire possibly blue on Fords, is the energiser wire from the dash charge light, without this connected the alternator will not charge. If on the new pigtail two wires are thick (30amp) you can ignore one, some vehicles double up on the charge supply wire.

My battery light it on I change the atl still on what coul be

Usually, the battery light (red in color) is hooked directly to the alternator and indicates when the alternator is not putting out enough power of the appropriate voltage. So, I would try to change the alternator again, making sure that the thick cable is not overtightened which can sometimes mess up the voltage regulator or electronics of the alternator. Also, make sure the belt is tight and turning the pulley by observing the pulley spinning when the engine is at idel and looking at the side of it.

One can use a test light to verify that positive current is present at the alternator's positive terminal (thick positive wire) that is held on by a nut.

I have a brand new battery and new alternator but when i press the gas the battery light comes on and the car dies after a little bit. whats the problem?

try running another earth cable from the engine back to the battery and see what happens ,if that fails the replace the thick heavy cable from the + on the alternator straight to the positive on the battery that will cure it for sure
