The easiest way i found is to remove the nut and break it free from the spindle by hitting spindle with hammer then unbolt it from the control arm, reverse installation.

I replaced the top strut mount bearing on my 1998 Nissan Pathfinder. Now when I turn the wheel there is a binding/creaking sound coming from the strut mount area. Do you think the lower plate requires...

DO NOT GREASE THE TOP MOUNT IN ANY WAY.

Check your ball joints, and of course make sure you installed the bearings properly, and unseated or improperly installed bearing will give you those noises.

How to remove lower ball joints on a nissan pathfinder is ther a trick to removing the ball joint

Disconnect the caliper and mount, and hang it aside. Unbolt the 5 or 6, 6mm allen head bolts from the hub. Pull the hub out and remove the snap ring and washers behind it. Loosen the upper ball joint nut a little and break the joint free. Support the lower control arm with a jack and loosen the lower ball joint nut and break it loose also. With the lower control arm supported, remove the upper ball joint nut and slowly remove the lower control arm support (jack). The shock will retain the torsion bar and you can now remove the lower ball joint nut and slide the knuckle off the ball joint. You will be able to move the knuckle and axle around enough to give you access to the four bolts securing the ball joint

I just got my hands on a 95 Pathfinder. The front tires have a lot of wear on the inside edges. I was told by seller that this is caused by driving on pavement in 4WD. As this is my first 4x4 I wasn't sure...

Don't Believe HIM this is INDICATIVE of INCORRECT CAMBER ADJUSTMENT of Witch IS IN FACT an ALIGHNMENT Issue, A CONTRIBUTER can be BALL JOINT FAILURE so be Ready for FRONT END PARTS REPLACMENT upon Getting it Alighned as these Parts Being BAD will Make it IMPOSSIBLE to Correctly Have a ALIGHNMENT Done.

I'm guessing the lower ball joints are shot. This will cause the tires to lean in on the top and and wear the inside of the tire. I could be wrong! Try jacking the front wheels up and support the vehicle on jack stands, now grab the tire top and bottom and try to rock it in and out. If there is movement, you will have to have someone watch to see what is moving, while you rock it. If it's the ball joints, they will need to be replaced before you can align it. This can be spendy, there's a lot of labor involved.

Would help to unbolt the strut from the steering knuckle to help getting the knuckle off the ball joint.

Lower Ball Joint

You will have to remove it and replace it with a new one. The general steps for doing that is: 1)remove the tire 2)remove the caliper and rotor 3)remove the outer tie rod from the spindle 4)remove the axle nut 5) remove the cv axle 5)remove the nut on the ball joint 6) bang ball joint out and press in a new one. Then reassembly is exactly the reverse as disassembly.

I want to replace lower ball joint on my nissan altima 2001

Hi,
Remove the castle nut on top of the ball joint that secures the ball joint to the spindle. separate ball joint/lower control arm from spindle.Remove lower control arm bolt attatching control arm to subframe/engine cradle. Remove control arm. Replacement is recersal of the removal. Nissan/Infinity ball joints can not be pressed out or in. They are replaced with the whole new lower control arm as one (On most Nissan/ Infinity vehicles, although some exeptions apply. Hope this helps.
