Are you sure its the tranny slipping? My jetta hates wet weather too and it always seems to be a crack in the distributor cap causing misfiring of my plugs. When my car dries up it runs fine again.

You don't check the fluid like that! it should not be full up to where you can feel it. there is a screw plug possibly a bolt into the side of the gearbox you take this out and fill it from the side once the fluid start to come back out it is then full. make sure the car is sat on the flat. also you may need to bleed it through now as it's been over filled. on top of the gearbox there should be a slave cylinder a part with what look like brake pipes coming from it, this is most likely the fault the car had to start with. Bleed it through if no joy then you will most likely need a new slave cylinder.

Please get back to me if you are unsure of anything.

Dan

It is a weather stripping problem the best place to take it would be one of two places 1. autobody shop or 2. auto glass place whichever can give you a good price or if you can order the weather stipping for a local auto parts store and do it yourself

Conld weather transmission slip in Reverse

To be honest here i do not have a lot of experiance with auto boxes as they are few and far between here in europe where its all small diesel engines and manual gearboxes but from the description it sounds like the clutch is slipping ,on all auto boxes their is a front clutch ,its a multiplate wet clutch that locks up with a oil pressure operated piston type system ,so if the clutch is worn or the piston then this will cause your problem ,now check the oil level when hot by applying the handbrake and putting in reverse with engine running and checking the oil level ,or when cold the level should be about half inch above the max without the engine running.Beware though that some vehicles do not have a dip stick for the auto box so no way of checking the level so what you do in this case is find the breather on top of the gearbox and some way or the other add a pint of dextron oil and see what happens

2003 honda civic cuts out when wet weather or car wash

Could be two different problems.
The ignition system could be shorting out and shut the engine off when wet, and the serpentine belt could be slipping when wet which would cause the alternator not to charge.
The battery light should come on if the engine dies.

My van shiftsd hard from first to second gear when it is raining, the check engine light is on, would the cam shaft sensor do this?

  • A check engine light means a sensor has sent a fault to the brain computer. Now you have to pull the codes to know what happened. You can have this done at any major parts store in your area for free. Auto Zone, Advanced and NAPA to name a few. Then write the codes down so you can cross them with what is wrong and how to fix it. You can get the codes read, write them down and then clear them. You can cross the codes you have now with the ones you get and determine the reoccurring issue. If you just start replacing parts you are wasting time, money and effort. Yes, the CAM or Crank sensor could do this but the rain itself should not have a factor. Maybe a coincidence but wet weather should not expedite this problem.

  • Hope this helps

Cold wether trans slips in and out how do i chang the fuld in trans romrud@aol.com

If your tranny is slipping,,and you want to try something before rebuilding it,,,Go to your local parts store buy a bottle of LUCAS transmission slip fluid,,,comes in a white plastic bottle.Get it warm before you put it in because its think like honey, if you get it warm it will pour in alot faster. Drain your fluid by taking trans pan off, you should get about 4 quarts out by doing this, than put in the Lucas and 3 quarts of sythetic trans fluid, ask for it at auto parts store, after you put all this back in start the car and let it idle for about 15 min, than take it for a ride, 20 miles or so, You should notice it stop slipping, might take a couple days to work through the trans and cure the slipping,,,,,,,,,,,,,,If it dont work than there is something really wrong with the trans,,,But I had it work on a buick 1985 and it ran for 5 years and never sliped again, I used it on a 98 sonoma truck ,it was slipping when trying to shift into second and it is still on the road after 2 years,,,So i know it works. Try it,,cost 12.99 .

My clutched slipped twice .might need to replaced the clutch completely ? if I do how much would the part be?

Standard or Auto?
And are you driving in winter conditions..... sometimes the cold weather can mess with the slave cyclinder causing a clutch to 'slip'. Mine did this already this winter for a half day then totally worked fine again.
You would 'feel' something different when you push in your clutch.... like stiffer than usual.

Rpm starts reving high & then transmition on highway slips only allowing the automatic transmition to drive at 30 mps

the bad new is that the transmission has failed....the high revving is due to the clutches slipping (yes, auto transmission have clutches, about 3-4 of them wet), as the material wears on them they start to slip.

i bet if you checked the transmission oil, it would smell burnt and be dark brown, it should be red and sweet smelling.....no cheap way around this unfortunatley.....sorry

Suzuki esteem 2000 1.8l wagon. Check engine light on. Trouble accelarating in rainy weather. Any ideas? also how could i check the trouble code myself without obd device? Cheers!

Sounds like the moisture or the wetness from the rain is getting within the firing area. Try using Di-electric grease on the plug boots and coil pack. This prevents wetness from entering the firing area and causing diffused spark. If you have an Advance auto or Auto zone near you, they will usually check the code for you for free.
