Mabe. You don't need to remove the dash IF you can still insert the key and turn the switch (along with a special tool). If that fails, they'll probably have to drill down the center of the mechanism (or something else similarly drastic). There is a special tool that looks like a "U" that is placed on either side of the ignition chamber. Once it is slid in and the key is turned slightly, the locking chamber can be pulled out.

Remove and install an ignition on a 1999 pontiac bonniville

Are you talking about the ignition switch or the key cylinder? The ignition switch is on the steering column under the dash. Changing the key cylinder requires the removal of the steering wheel.

How to change ignition switch on 1992 gmc sonoma

Remove the kick panel covers, the lower portion of the dash, remove the lower half of the covers on the steering column. You will have to cut about 3 or 4 wire ties.

You will need a special tool to remove the bolts from the existing ignition switch, (it looks like a reverse torx screw). To remove the other end of the existing Ignition switch cable you will need a nut driver to remove the connector.

Remove the two additional connectors on the outside of the connection. Re-install the additional connectors onto the new switch harness. Connect the adaptor and tighten the bolt. install the switch and tie the harness back into place. replace the cover and Dash panels.

Need to remove ignition 1998 cutlass olds....ignition on dash...not on steering wheel

you will need to pop out the lighted ring around the switch, remove the radio and uder dash panels on the driver side near the ignition, this should give you enough room to change the lock which is held in with 2 10mm polts, you will need to program the car to the key after the lock is changed.

I am trying to change the ignition switch in my 91 chevrolet truck and i cant get the old switch out.

The ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is operated by a linkage rod.
NOTE On column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not normally visible. On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is accessible under the dash.

The ignition switch is operated by the key switch. Courtesy of Ford Motor Company. To replace the switch:
  • Remove the ignition switch wiring harness.
  • Unbolt it from its position.
  • Bolt the new switch into position.
  • Attach the witing harness.

Good luck (remember rated this help)

Lower dash removal of 93 vw cabriolet to change ignition switch

You'll need to remove the steering wheel, 15/16th inch socket, the column top and bottom cover, remove the 3 screws holding on the turn signal and wiper stocks. Unplug and remove the stocks. Remove the black plastic sleeve on the hub. Remove the 1 allen bolt holding the lock cylinder/switch assembly. Remove assembly, there is a phillips screw holding the ignition switch in the assembly, remove that screw and pull out the ignition switch.
