Setting idle

ck air filter, make sure clean and not having a chocking effect on engine and make sure throttle body i clean as this will slow down air passing through system because it makes the air rough and has a slowing on the air and the computer will set paremeters try to make vehicle run as smoth as possible for these conditions ,it goes into limp-home-mode .cleaning throttle boby helps the air to move through smoothly and improves idl and throttle responce

If the code means the O2 sensor is not switching from rich to lean, you may have a fuel problem or a vac leak. When the sensor is warmed up, it should switch back and forth from lean to rich several times per minute.

It is a 1998 Olds 88LS. The check engine light was on. The mechanic checked it and there was a code that he said meant "transmission sticking". That code has not since reappeared. I went...

The only way to definitely resolve your problem is to get real time readings on the sensors and controls in the engine management system. That is accomplished with a scan tool; and the scan tool is no better than the mechanic interpreting the data. That said, my guess would be that you have a faulty 0/2 sensor. Occasionally, the torque converter clutch solenoid (TCC solenoid) can stick and cause the torque converter to remain locked up which will stall the engine at stops. That doesn't sound like your problem. The hesitation you're experiencing on accelerating from a stop is a common symptom of a bad 0/2 sensor calling for a too lean fuel mixture. Hope this gets you fixed.

2004 santa fe (4 cyl model) low jumpy idle and low power at slow speeds and idle ..... very jumpy. Transmission has checked out ok. Seems to worsen if you have the air conditioner on.

Do you have a check engine light? If so have Autozone tell you what engine code is ( free). Sounds like could be cranck shaft position sensor. Symptoms sound just like what ours was doing before we replaced sensor.

Will not pass emissions code p0401 infuficient egr flow

EGR flow is monitored by the PCM by it looking for a reaction in the FRONT O2 sensor in responce to the command given to the EGR valve. The linear electronic EGR valve sends a return signal to the PCM indicating the relative position of the step motor and hence how far open (or closed) the EGR valve is in responce to the PCM command. The PCM expects to see (within a set of given parameters) a change in the O2 sensor reading (change in exhaust gas make up) after the EGR valve is commanded open or closed. If it doesn't, or that change is not within the expected parameters, a code will be set based on the skewed data. Generally a "insufficient flow" code will be set by:

1.Faulty EGR valve (sticking, or "lying" to the PCM about the actual valve position)
2.Faulty electrical connection at the EGR valve (causing false data)
3.Clogged EGR passages
4. Bad read from the MAP, or TPS, causing the PCM to misinterpret the EGR data based on faulty operational data from the other sensors
5. (Very rarely) A marginally "slow" O2 sensor. (PCM does not "see" the change in exhaust make up quick enough and interprets that as poor EGR flow.)
I have found that normally this code means that the EGR is not opening the amount that it has been commaneded to by the PCM. Normal cure for me lately has beed to repalce the EGR valve and to clean out the passages while the valve is off. The Tech 2 is able to command the EGR open and show the commanded opening and the actual opening. When this code is present the actual and commanded do not match closely at all. Car running problem

Ok Slow deceleration rev responce was part of the ECU software to keep the emissions down ,however if this has only just started you can try to reset the IAC valve ,the procedure is as follows.

Turn ignition key on ,unplug the IAC valve ,turn the key off ,replug the IAC valve. do this 3-4 times .Then start the engine while holding the gas pedal to 2000 rpm ,then slowley let the go of the gas pedal till the engine idles .

The IAC valve is located on the throtle body and has 4 wires to it.

Sometimes the throtle body needs to be cleaned and then reset.
