Question about 1998 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

1 Answer

I have a 1998 Mercedes C180. I had the transmission rebuilt just over 1 year ago. Now it seems to be having transmission "spasms". Sometimes it slips when taking off, sometimes it revs out (even though it's in DRIVE), and sometimes after stopping at lights it automatically selects 3rd gear and won't change down or up unless I turn the car off and restart it. What the hell? Is there some sort of electrical device/computer that controls this (and is there replacements... as opposed to a full transmission rebuild?). Franky

Could be many things. Depends on transmission. Band, servo, seals, valve body. Take it back if rebuilt at a garage. Most have 1 year, 12000 mile warranties

Odd question

You have a vehicle barely 6 years old with
a failed transmission & now can not use it at all

Once they slip your done
Has to be rebuilt

Did you not change the fluid ever 3 years?

That may cost you $3500 verse $80 for a fluid
change 3 years ago & again now

Can't change it now it slips,it will get worst

Transmission slip wont move

once an automatic transmission starts slipping that is it, it must be tron down the system flushed of all clutch material and rebuilt, this requires a very high degree of training and skill, automatic transmission repair is a very specialized field and takes years to learn. If u plan on repairing this your self, flush the fluid out of the lines and cooler and then buy a factory rebuilt transmission and torque converter.

Have you tried calling them to see if they will fix it for free anyway? Sometimes, a reputable service shop will do this or give you a discount, maybe free labor? If they won't give you any help, take your vehicle to Aamco for a lifetime warranty.
