Key won't turn in 1996 RAV4

Go to a real locksmith and have them cut you a new key. They will cut it from the original specifications using your VIN number This is not the same as the copy a key grinders, but a way to cut it to the original shape. Take the RAV4 so they can get the VIN number and try it out. I can't say for where you live, but here is less than $10.

Key won't start car

I kinda had this same problem with mine. The key sometimes would not turn. I took it to the Toyota place and they told me it was probably because the key had been copied so many times from the original it had wore down. I myself had had three keys made because I kept breaking the heads off of them. They made me a factory key from the VIN number of my Rav4 (not a copy) and it hasn't done it since. It only cost about ten bucks.
