Question about 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

1 Answer

2005 chevy colorado,5 cylinder, intermitently the truck will not start. It is as though the anti-theft locking mechanism is engaged. After sitting for a while (time varies), it will start as though nothing was wrong. I'm thinking that the repair shop will say that they can not duplicate the problem and will tell me to bring it in when the problem occurs! I want it fixed!

Start keeping a log. This will help you and the shop if you take it in. Each time it happens, Was it Cold, Sat overnight, just finished running an errand and up to opeating temperature? these are the things that are needed to try to duplicate it to being stubborn to start.

There is no magical reset procedure , you have it scanned for DTC'S -diagnostic trouble codes ! Then tested and repaired . Which means you have to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop .

You cant. The key needs to be programmed to the car. You may have to have a locksmith or dealer do it as it may require a special computer to do

97 cutless supreme it will start and only run about 10 seconds then die

Does it have anti-theft system ?
The vehicle theft deterrent system is designed in order to prevent vehicle theft by disabling the fuel injectors unless the lock cylinder is correctly engaged by a mechanical key. The theft deterrent system uses the following 4 components for theft prevention:
• The lock cylinder
• The ignition switch
• The body control module (BCM)
• The powertrain control module (PCM) Do you have a SECURITY light lit on the dash ?

Truck won't start after anti-theft lock has been activated

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 seconds. I had a '98 that did that. It was the alarm that failed. I had to buy a new alarm module to fix it.

Trouble starting because of antitheft switch

I had the same problem in the past. A mechanic told me that sometimes the keys become worn and will cause that problem. They made new keys and it worked just fine.

'05 Chevy Malibu Wil Not Start

is the security light blinking on the dash? If so you need to rreprogram the key to the anti theft module. to do this, turn key to on...let sit for about 10 min or so until the security light flashes. turn key off.. count o 5. vehicle should start. if not then it will have to go to the dealer to have it specifically reprogrammed as the PCM and anti theft modules both no longer reconize the key code.

Intermittent starting problems with 2005 Chevy Colorado pickup...

I've had this problem for about a year now. When this happens, turn key to acc position and leave it for 10 minutes until the pass-lock light either stops blinking or goes out. Then turn off key and restart your truck. I have seen somewhere that if you do this 3 times consecutively, it will re-program the "brain" but I have not tried this yet. Good luck!
